MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
Tone 4 brings the Intention of Stability by establishing a sense of orientation. The number 4 is related to the 4 directions and the 4 dimensions of height, length, depth and breadth of the cube – the most stable of geometric forms.
Jaguar/IX is a Day Sign of Spirit. Jaguar guards the sacred sites and altars where Human holds communion with the Creator. The Jaguar can anchor our Divine Intention between the Above and the Below.
Jaguar heightens our Spiritual Senses. IX represents the Divine Feminine, holding the aspect of Compassionate Love and Spiritual Discernment. Jaguars spend their life alone in relationship with Mother Earth who they see as the source of every blessing. They are the nahaul that can hear the sound of Mother Earth’s beating heart.
The new experience of the world we will create will be placed on Mother Earth from the Center of where we are. Our world will be our own Dance of Life to the Song of Earth’s Beauty around us. The Creator’s Intention to Create Mother Earth, was a Movement of Unconditional Love. Mother Earth maintains the vibration the Creator’s first movement as an Expression of Love. The Creator speaks of Love to us through Her. Beyond her Beauty, Mother Earth shares the Vibration of the Creator’s Love.
Reed/BEN illustrated our altar in Spirit. Jaguar/IX is a “Call to Worship” on Mother Earth. An altar in Spirit and an altar on Earth will set the place of a channel between the Above and the Below.
Jaguar/IX is the Day Sign of the shaman, healer, and way shower who engages the Power of “Earth Magic.” The Spiritual Power of the Jaguar is Gratitude for Mother Earth. For everything Above there is a reflection Below. Mother Earth reflects the Creator’s Love. She sustains herself and supports all the living things she holds in her arms. There’s 10 million organisms in a drop of seawater. At 7.6 billion humans, we aren’t even a drop in the bucket of all the Life that Mother Earth supports. We take the most and she still loves and supports us equally. IX reflects the Compassionate Heart of the Creator, and Awakens our Passion to Create. Consider the body of artworks and photographs that Mother Earth’s inspired. Our Vision of the Dream is Empowered by her Forces.
We can use the Power of Earth Love to carry out a Spiritual Intention. Earth was the Creators Gift to us. Earth was designed for our Human Senses. Jaguar is capable to create tangible experiences of Spirit. The Jaguar can connect the Divine Forces Above and Below. Jaguars Love Water and have the Vision to see beyond a reflection to an alternate reality. The Jaguar moves in stealth and is capable to cross dimensions. Invisibility is a tool for protection. The Jaguar travels alone, hiding in the shadows near the altar.
We can anchor our own Spirit in the center of the 4 directions, in the Up Above and the Down Below. Tone 4 defines the parameters of our Love and Spiritual Authority. The Creator set no limits on Love.
The Earth is a physical expression of the Creator’s Love. We are made of Earth. No grain of sand is more sacred than another. We are all meant to reflect the Power and Forces of the Whole of Mother Earth. We have the Healing Power to Restore our Self and Others. We have our own Vibration of Love. Connecting with the Earth, we are Grounded in Earth’s Vibration of the Creator’s Love.
The Jaguar Spirit knows no empty spaces between one thing and another, discerning connection of All in the Ether of Spirit. Jaguar’s Magic of Gratitude can transmit Spiritual Energy to every living thing or direct it to an Intention. Gratitude is Jaguar’s Magical Vibration.
Tones 1 through 6 is the phase of Spiritual Growth in every trecena. Growth requires that we reach beyond the last effort. Flint intended us to Know the Highest Truths about our Self and what we are capable to Know. The Monkey/CHUEN trecena is Inspiring our Dream of a new world. We are meant to be like Monkeys, playing with the ideas of Creation. Who knows what we might discover. Jaguar/IX lifts the veil to the Infinity of Spirit that makes Miracles Possible. Jaguar identifies the center from which we would transmit our Spiritual Power. IX calls us into communion with Mother Earth.
Jaguar calls us to a Healing from Mother Earth. We can drink her water as Living Light and Bless everything we eat, remembering it was Loved and Sustained by Mother Earth. We can call it Sacred for Being in this Time and Place to receive the Blessing on behalf of the Whole, and for all the Hands that brought it to the table. The Elders led us to touch our food on the plate when we offered a blessing.
Shrines, temples and altars anchor Spirit and Earth. The are the Power Center for Spiritual Energy. Holy Places hold magical energy from all the Humans who travel there from every direction, holding a Sacred Intention. When we create a Sacred Space, so will the Force of the Power there grow over time, as everything we do there is done for a Sacred Intention.
Mother Earth will be the womb of our Creation. The Fruit that will bear the Seed of our Dream will be Her own flesh and blood. Our own Gratitude for all that she offers will be the foundation for our Miracle.
To all my relations, may we bless the Holy Ground where our new world will exist. May we bring to Mother Earth an Offering of Returned Love, acknowledging all she has Offered to us. May we bring her a thing of Beauty. May we know that whatever we bring originated with her, and allow our offering to express something of the Mother that is beautiful to us. May we anchor Spirit’s Intention in a way that we can touch and and hold on to. May we feel the tenderness of Earth beneath our feet and relish her with all our Senses. We might be drawn to choose a treasure from Mother Earth to treasure at our altar. May we ask first, and leave something of our Self as a Sacred Exchange. May anchor our Self in the Womb of the Mother, surrounded by the Vibration of the Creator’s Compassionate Love.
in lak’ech, i am another you

21 DAYS of CEREMONY: Day 21 and 1
Observing 21 days of Personal Sacred Ceremony is a traditional preparation for the K’iche Maya New Year, 8 B’atz (8 Monkey/CHUEN). The New Year is a celebration of Time, and the day of Initiation for the new Mayan Daykeepers. We are preparing for an initiation into a new way of being. We can employ the Magic of the Jaguar by observing these 21 Days in Gratitude.
Today I’m grateful for Mother Earth. Last round’s journal noted my gratefulness for the Chickadees as they were preparing for winter. I give thanks for my time with the Finch and the songs they sang on the balcony. I’m grateful there so much more beauty left to see.
SHRINES AND ALTARS: On the traditional Medicine Circle path, shrines were set in equal distances from the center/home/sacred place at each of the 4 directions. The Elders described it as anchoring our place on the Earth’s spiritual grid. These shrines were buried offerings to Mother Earth, which could be a stone, crystal, or other sacred object. A home can be anchored by placing a crystal in the ground at the 4 directions around its parameter. In the shamanic Pachakuti Mesa tradition, a shrine called an apacheta (a stone cairn) is built above ground. The apacheta creates a place sanctified for a connection with Mother Earth, a place to return to with offerings and prayers. The ground where they were built was sprinkled first with floral water, said to Awaken the Consciousness of Mother Earth to the time and place where you are. A medicine circle was created first with a circle of cornmeal, starting at the bottom (south) and lain in a clockwise direction. Within the lines were drawn with tobacco, North to South, then East to West. In the center was laid 3 cocoa leaves (or bay leaves). This preparation demonstrated a prayer that established the Sacred Intention, then the stones are built on top of it, a circle of 12 stones with the 13th stone in the center. Then the pile of stones is created from this foundation. There is power in choosing a special place to be identified as your sacred place of connection to Nature and Mother Earth. You can create your own tradition, guided by the traditions of the olds ones. Their ways reflect the respect that honors the elements of Earth and Spirit.
If you don’t have a space or means to maintain a personal altar, you can identify a Sacred Object. Crystals and other gems and rocks are natural expressions of the Creator’s Love. We can assign them to the Sacred Purpose of anchoring our prayers in the realm of physicality. Our personal medicine objects are never handled by anyone else. Human is Blessed when we have physical things to hold onto. They collect the vibration of our Spirit.

4 Jaguar/IX (Cherokee, Panther/SAHO’NI)
Galactic Tone 4: Stability; the cube is most stable of all forms and establishes volume by definition of height, length, depth and breadth; 4 directions establish orientation. The energy of 4 sets the parameters, which establish the freedoms and barriers needed to create a game, work, or relationship.
Jaguar/IX: Born with a deep love of the Mother Earth, Jaguar or shaman is directly tied to the source of all Earth magic. They possess great power of intellect and strength or character through integrity. Jaguar energy is feminine in nature and is the ruling spirit of jungles, plains, and mountains. The spirit of Jaguar inhabits the Mayan temples and is called on to assist in spiritual as well as in material ways. Jaguar is also the god/goddess of gratefulness.
Cherokee, Panther/SAHO’NI: Panther is symbolized by comets, meteors, shooting stars, fireballs, and magicians. Meteors appearing around the middle of November are Heralds of the Coming of the Light, the Cherokee New Year. Panther is the Shadow of the Sphinx, Herald of the Dawn, guardian of the night when the sun is traveling through the underworld. Panthers have unlimited imaginations, visualizations, and are spellbinding speakers. The Cherokee Totem Jaguar is the guardian of the portals to other dimensions; shamanic abilities will open; multi-dimensional magic; healer, leader, way shower energy when used for spiritual growth. Conducive to pray for grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and wives day. For wisdom at 4 Balances, cunning and protection of Mother Nature. To thank the Earth for sustenance. Ix is the native cunning, enterprising, vigorous, bold and realistic.
