A Mayan Story from the Yucatan

Ananda shared the following story her comments about the origin of the Maya. I’m grateful to learn more about the destination and culture of my pilgrimage! Thank you for sharing, Ananda!

Ananda’s Share…

Also in the land of the Yucatan we have an extraordinary legend that talks about the time when Lord Itzamna came from Atlantis, before the island sank. The legend says:

The Queen of Atlantis, in silence, came to Lord Itzamna and spoke about the Prophecy:

“Itzamna, I have told you that you are the best and wisest priest in my kingdom, and for this reason I have chosen you. My astronomers have read the skies and say that our land will disappear when the next moon comes… I want you to choose a group of families from my kingdom and three of the wisest priests to carry the writings (codex) that tell the story of our people and what will happen in the future.


You will go to a place that I will show you and there you will found a city… Under the main temple you will guard the writings of the past and those yet to be written, to preserve the history of our land, Atlantis.

You, and the chosen ones will leave in nine canoes and sail in the direction of the West… Nine days later you will find a new land with rivers and mountains and you will land there… When you find water, that is the place you will found the City… “

After sailing for two days the sea was peaked with waves so high that two canoes sank; the island they were leaving was covered with a dark sky filled with lightening. Itzamna thought it was the end of his country, just as the High Priestess pronounced…

Itzamna arrived at the land with no rivers or mountains… and the people with him asked “what is the name of this land?” He responded, “This is the Land of the Mayab the Land of the Chosen Ones.”

Lord Itzamna began to build the first Sacred Sites in the Land of the Mayab, and one of the most remarkable is Chichen Itza. It remains Atlantis because the people, Itza or Itz-ha, are the people connected with the sacred principle of water: ITZ means dew, and Ha means water.

So, Chichen Itza is the great Cosmic University founded by Lord Itzamna with the ancient knowledge coming from Atlantis – Tulan Island. Chichen Itza is built between natural wells, cenotes. Stand between two of them that face North and South and you will see and feel the Sacred Energy from the Ancient Atlantis.

Follow-up: Too few know of the Maya Sacred connection with Atlantis… Maybe one day you might learn that the Mayan Calendar was brought to the Yucatan by Itzamna and his team.

Other Mayan Sacred sites that embody this Atlantean energetic is “AKÉ” and “Uxmal”. If you dream about this or intuitively fell the pull to investigate further, one might consider visiting these sites in silence… 🙏

Wikipedia: The present name seems to derive from Oxmal, meaning “three times built”. This seems to refer to the site’s antiquity and the times it had to rebuild. The etymology is disputed; another possibility is Uchmal which means “what is to come, the future.” By tradition, this was supposed to be an “invisible city,” built in one night by the magic of the dwarf king.

UPDATE ON A LIFE DREAM:

SEPTEMBER 12th Update:
I received my new passport! My Leap of Faith to buy the ticket before receiving it paid off. 🙂 The reality is starting to set in. I’m excited to carry you with me. My 68th gregorian birthday is this week. I know what a healing it will be to see I’m just as capable as I have always been to charge off into the unknown for the experience. (Monkey must be talking.) I couldn’t be doing this without you.

The plan so far includes a visit to Chichen Itza, area cenotes, and the Black Jaguar ruins of Ek’ Balam. The Day of the Dead festivities will be going on, and October 31st, Ian Lungold’s Destiny Kin, 12 Sun/AHAU.

Thank you for sharing this, what a beautiful story! the connections between the civilizations, the magic of the calendar, astrology, numerology – all of them, in their guidance for us; the fables that entice and lure us toward other realities just becoming within reach…that have always been there.

      • I would love to give you some traveling tips, shall I write to you here? i.e. get a small local spanish dictionary, it will save you; the people in Latin America revolve around a world of respect in their culture, observe and practice what you see for operating in their personal space; their culture is sooooo giving! They will go out of their way to open up their humble home and meager substenance to you. Make sure you have plenty of room in your suitcase to bring back some of the most beautiful Guatemalan garments ever! They are inexpensive and you could bring back (take some orders) for ponchos and such and resell them slightly increased to help pay for your Journey – they will still be inexpensive! And your friends and cohorts will love you for it. tips for today – of course, there are more 😉 en lak’ech aloha much love ~e

  2. Uxmal is a Mayan Cosmic University for the “Divine Feminine”….! One will notice within the “Quad of the Nuns” the 4 various structures at different levels one would attend as they progressed with their training. Back in the day, men were not allowed (except for basic maintenance efforts).

    “AK” in Maya means “Turtle”… And this symbol represented “Atlantis” to them. One will find Turtle symbols in Uxmal and this will explain the name AKÉ and why this Sacred site is also connected to Atlantis. Also, this might provide some wondering as to why some of our own North American tribes traditionally referred to the land in U.S. as “Turtle Island”.

    • Thank you – yes, the Turtle was the land that rose from the darkness/water as a place for Human to be, is how my teachers on the Native American path defined it. My Hopi/Tewa teacher taught that we are celestial beings from the stars. Thank you for sharing. much love, in lak’ech, Debra

    • Ananda – I had found some info about Kinich Ahau, which I never heard before and wondered what this was. I can’t find it now, but it referred to a Sun ceremony held in May? I had heard that each pyramid has a specific purpose of healing/activation. My teacher said that it was important to treat all these places with great respect and caution. She was specifically relating to some of the ruins in New Mexico (state) in the USA. There’s so much to learn. love, Debra

      • Debra ~ I will check with my sources and get back to you about Kinich… I agree with your teacher about the importance of great respect and caution at these Sacred Sites (Silence). Be prepared to center and ground yourself before entering as tourist can be very noisy and disrespectful. Do not allow this to distract you.

        There was a direct connection (trade routes) between the “Anasazi” (in the four corners area) and the Mayan many years ago. The indigenous translation of Anasazi means “the Ancient Ones”. One might feel their presence when they visit Chaco canyon, Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients, etc. I often wonder what it must have been like to participate in ceremony within one of those “Kiva’s”.

        Here’s the kicker…. It has been theorized that the Mayan and Anasazi civilizations eventually disbursed because of waring or drought or any number of other dark issues. However, when one takes the time to explore the advanced nature of their understanding of the Cosmos, their amazing “Spiritual” attributes, connection with Atlantis, and the relationship they had with their Pleiadian star brothers and sisters, another perspective becomes clear. Mayan teachers and Shaman know that what toke place back then was that a significant portion of these civilizations “Ascended” to a higher dimensional level.

      • Thank you Ananda. Silence was always strictly enforced by my indigenous teachers and moon mothers. I’ve been considering so many wandering around. The only way is just to hold my own space, let it be, and acknowledge that even those that don’t know the ways of traditional ceremony are worthy to be connected to the energy.   3. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. Have you booked accommodation yet? Can highly recommend Hacienda Chichan close to the site. I’ve stayed there twice and each time been able to walk into the site before officially open. Magical!

    Having visited Chichen Itza and done ceremony in the corner of the observatory, I felt even more connected to the Maya in the beautiful land of Mexico as we know it today. Blessings on your journey of meaning and discovery.

  6. Once, although a month prior I had been welfare mom literally without resources to get off my own block, I found myself with no pre-planning and by total synchronicity, gazing at the stellar observatory at Tulum — at dawn — on the Solstice…

    Boy, so much has happened since that day, thirty years ago, that this outrageous lineup had actually pretty much slipped my so-called mind! Thanks for the reminder!
