The Practice of Sacred Breath
Sacred Breath is a worthy Spiritual Tool that can be used as a central part of any practice. This post includes breathwork practices that could be used for:
- Consciousness Centering – to draw one’s self in the present moment
- Healing – using Sacred Breath to draw healing to the body
- Release – discharging excess energy experienced as anxiety or stress
Sami Energy Breath
The following is a practice activates psi sensitivty, the capacity for creative discernment and precognition, shared from the shamanic work of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition.
2 Breaths per Minute
- Inhale for 10 seconds
- Retain for 10 seconds
- Exhale for 10 seconds
Repeat for 5 to 15 minutes. Visualize Sami energy being drawn directly into your heart, the seventh thoracic vertebrae, or the left palm on the inhalation. As you retain breath, feel it circulate within you. As you exhale, feel it pumping through your body.
NOTE: Start with what’s comfortable. Small beginnings are effective. You might start with 7 counts repeating the cycle 3-4 times.
Native American Healing Breath
A practice from the Native American tradition is to draw breath for the purpose of sacred healing. This can be done to relieve physical and emotional discomfort.
Close your eyes and draw your attention to the place that is causing discomfort. Place your hand at the place for healing. Draw in breath through the nose as Light of Spirit and direct it toward this place, then pause to imagine it’s illumination. Breath out the unwanted and send away with a blessing. Breath in Love to fill the empty place.
