Eternal Beauty for a Day Lily
Poetry/Prose by Merrill Leonard
She appears in the morning
walk through the Garden,
Her first blush is taken
by the zenith Light.
When the Sun completes
the Day’s journey
Nothing’s more to do.
Work finished as it first began.
Though, her beauty can follow
into a Dream at night
Seen by the first Witness,
Eyes of a Divine Creator.
Morning Beauty magnified
In the Sleep of a Dream
her most glorious colors
eternal in Darkness or Light.
No hope of salvation
Rescued from the Light.
Beauty only for the Day.
Withered by night.
To remember is to see again
Beauty born with the Light
She returns with the Sunrise
Only for a Season born to rise again.
