Flare on Southeastern Limb of the Sun

Light From Beyond Within Our View

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 02/16/2026

SOMETHING FLARE-Y THIS WAY COMES: A sunspot located behind the sun’s southeastern limb erupted on Feb. 16th (0435 UTC), producing an M2.5-class solar flare. Almost certainly, the flare was stronger than its nominal classification because it was partially eclipsed by the edge of the sun. This beautiful blast may herald the appearance of a new geoeffective active region later this week.

THE SPIRAL SHAPE OF COMET 29P: Last week (Feb. 10th), cryovolcanic Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann experienced its biggest eruption since 2022. The comet abruptly brightened 100-fold with debris that strangely resembled an ammonoid fossil. Anthony Kroes photographed the growing spiral on Feb. 14th:

“Inspired by the recent article on Spaceweather.com, I tried imaging Comet 29P to see if I could capture the same spiral structure,” says Kroes. “Sure enough, there it was! The snail-shell appearance was detectable in a single 3-minute exposure.”

The spiral is probably caused by a localized vent spewing a plume of magma, which is then twisted by the underlying rotation of the comet’s core. “Magma” on Comet 29P is not hot lava. Instead, it is thought to be a cold brew of liquid hydrocarbons – a line up – (CH4, C2H4, C2H6 and C3H8) mixed with dissolved CO2. The comet is like a can of soda, shaken and poised to pop whenever a vent opens.

Major eruptions like this one are often followed by more outbursts–a type of cryovolcanic aftershock. Indeed, another outburst was detected on Feb. 15th. “This one was smaller, only +1 magnitude vs. +5 magnitudes on Feb. 10th,” notes astronomer Eliot Herman. “Nevertheless, we can already see a bright new shell of debris forming around the comet’s core.”

Will it be a spiral, too? Stay tuned!

“Ring of Fire” at the Edge of the World: All You Need to Know, StarWalk.com

On February 17, 2026, the Moon will slide in front of the Sun, creating the “ring of fire” solar eclipse. But astronomy isn’t for the weak — to see it in person, you’ll need to head to Antarctica and possibly crash at a Russian research station. Not into extreme cold (or extreme logistics)? Track the eclipse with the Eclipse Guide app instead. This article explains what makes this eclipse genuinely special… even if it’s basically off-limits for 99.9999% of humanity.

  • Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2026
  • Type: Annular solar eclipse (“ring of fire”)
  • Where annularity is visible: remote Antarctica, the Southern Ocean
  • Where a partial eclipse is visible: parts of southern Africa and the far south of South America, plus much of Antarctica
  • What time is the eclipse: from 09:56 GMT to 14:27 GMT
  • Mayan Time:
    Conversion Details:
    • Start: 09:56 GMT – 6 hours = 03:56 CST (3:56 AM)
    • End: 14:27 GMT – 6 hours = 08:27 CST (8:27 AM)

This is an annular solar eclipse — sometimes called a “ring of fire” eclipse — because the Moon will cover the center of the Sun (96% of the visible surface) while leaving a bright ring of sunlight visible around its edge (but only for observers inside the thin annularity path).

What makes this eclipse special?

The February 2026 solar eclipse stands out for several reasons:

  1. Visible by more penguins than people

The “ring of fire” path runs across remote Antarctica, so the best in-person views are basically limited to a handful of research stations. Spectacular? Yes. Convenient? Absolutely not.

  1. It’s a deep annular eclipse

At maximum, the Moon covers about 96% of the Sun — leaving a thin, striking ring. It’s one of the more dramatic annular eclipses you can get… if you were actually able to see it.

  1. It kicks off a “ring of fire” streak

This is the first eclipse of 2026 — and the start of three annular eclipses in three consecutive years:

  • Feb 17, 2026 — Antarctica (the quiet opener)
  • Feb 6, 2027 — a much more “human-friendly” track across the Atlantic toward Africa
  • Jan 26, 2028 — best for vacation plans: Galápagos + Spain

By the Christian Calendar the End before the beginning of Lent. By Divine Order, the Time is intended for Dwelling in the Silent Place as One, Together, as a Divine Service on behalf of the whole. God can make our Unseen Light shine from every Time and Place, known to everyone within reach of the Sun’s Light in their own Time.

THE TRECENA OF JAGUAR/IX: A JOURNEY IN THE LIGHT

It only takes 13 days to see how Faith is always raised to Knowing the Truth of Answered Prayers. You only have to track your thoughts. Record the matters on your mind in a journal to see how your perspective is changed by a Divine Order of Thoughts.

1 Jaguar/IX is the 2nd trecena in the 1st uinal of the Tzolk’in round, found in Volume 1.

When you feel lost, go back to Day One. Tone 1 of each trecena is the Light of God’s Divine Inspiration for 13 Days.

Galactic Tone 12: Understanding. This number’s energy is a gift of great capability of retrospection. It is this ability that allows Twelve to connect disassociated parts into a (new) functioning whole. The energy of Twelve is that which presents a new piece of understood information or accumulated experience to be applied.

Serpent/CHICCHAN: Movement and the creation of time. Sensual and dramatic, this sun sign embodies intense instinctual wisdom and creates a connection from Earth bound, to Heavenly aspirations. By sincere service to others, Serpent opens and expands its heart. Serpent aligns authority and the truth to bring justice that is quick and sure. Serpents are very adaptable, even fluid until trapped in a corner, and then they explode. Serpents, venomous temper poisons itself as well as others by creating resentful, suppressive and even destructive attitudes.

A GOOD DAY TO: Ask for flexibility and fluidity.

Cherokee, Serpent/DO’TSI: Serpent’s symbol is Constellation Serpens. Serpent people are Sky people who come to earth periodically as Educators. As above-So below, on Earth the Serpent is the roots of the tree of knowledge. Serpent power is vital energy, the moving force, the instinct and desire for creativity, the trigger that sets off the action. It lights the fuse that magnifies and explodes the life force itself. Knowledge, combining science, technology and psychology, plus spirituality are seeded on the planet.

The constellation Serpens, the snake, represents the mythological serpent who revealed the secret of resurrecting the dead to the great healer, Asclepius, and was responsible for him becoming the god of medicine, and being immortalized among the stars as the constellation Ophiuchus, the serpent bearer.
