SPACEWEATHER: Sun-diving Comet and CME on the Way

Close Encounters Above and Below

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 02/27/2026

A COMET IS PLUNGING TOWARD THE SUN: Remember Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3)? On Dec.16, 2011, that comet skimmed the surface of the sun and survived, becoming a spectacular sight in the southern sky. The same thing could happen just weeks from now. This time the sungrazer is Comet MAPS (C/2026 A1), shown here in a photo from Farm Tivoli, Namibia:

“How bright will sungrazing Comet MAPS become?” wonders photographer Gerald Rhemann. “Since it was discovered on Jan. 13th, the comet has increased in brightness by 5 magnitudes (100-fold). Speculation that it could develop into a comet visible during the daylight around its perihelion (closest approach to the sun) on April 4th is entirely justified.

Rhemann’s photo, which he took in collaboration with astrophotographer Michael Jäger, shows Comet MAPS passing by the “Robin’s Egg Nebula” (NGC 1360) in the southern constellation Fornax. The comet has a 6 arcminute-wide green atmosphere and a jet-like tail 3 arcminutes long.

The comet’s encounter with the sun will be extremely close. “The latest orbit indicates a perihelion of only ~160,000 km above the photosphere,” says Qicheng Zhang of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. The corresponding distance for Comet Lovejoy was 140,000 km, about the same. Like Lovejoy, MAPS will pass well inside the sun’s corona.

You can re-visit Comet Lovejoy’s near-death dive in the Space Weather Archive: Dec. 16171819202122, 2011.

Whether or not Comet MAPS survives depends on the size and cohesion of its nucleus. “This remains highly uncertain for the time being,” says Zhang. “We don’t yet know if it is a typical small Kreutz sungrazer that will disintegrate before it gets to the sun–or something more substantial like Comet Lovejoy.”

Monitoring is encouraged. The comet is currently 13th magnitude, putting it within range of mid-sized backyard telescopes under dark skies. Southern observers are favored, but some northerners can see it, too. Point your optics here

A MINOR CME IS COMING: A magnetic filament on the sun erupted Feb. 25th, hurling a minor CME toward Earth. NOAA models suggest it will arrive late on Feb. 28th, sparking, at most, G1-class geomagnetic storms. Arctic sky watchers should be alert for auroras mixed with moonlight.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity

The Sun’s Face is turning to shine upon us. Comets were seen as a Sign of Spirit moving through the Heart of Sky. 10 Wisdom/CIB is the Way to see the Light and Live, through the Offering of Forgiveness. Time will reveal the Truth on Easter, April 5, 2026 — the Day after, April 4, 2026. 04/04/2026 is 7 Road/EB (AKA Human’s Road to Destiny) under the Tone 7 that completes Forgiveness. Easter, 04/05/2026 is 8 Reed/BEN, the Zenith Hour of Divine Justice, and the Day Sign of the Light that guides us to the Sanctuary of Home and an altar where we celebrate our Salvation as One.

Through Jesus’ offering of forgiveness, he returned as the “Pure Spirit” through which Human can ascend. The Resurrection is the Sign that we can rise from the ashes of our past, and “See the Light” as never before. The Time it happened before, Comet MAPS was magnitude 13, and after, its Light was magnified 100 times more. The Truth of the Mystery lies on 7 Road/EB – and whether we choose to follow the MAPS of the narrow way. 13 is the Sign of Ascension, and symbol of the Answer to our Prayers.

February 28, 2026, 6 Planets Are Aligned (Source: StarWalk) Earth makes 7. Tomorrow’s CME could offer a rainbow of colors as the backdrop for a Planetary Parade, if we follow the way of forgiveness.

Gospel, Matthew 5:20-26

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.”

“PRAY WITHOUT CEASING” – THE HOLY SPIRIT WATCHES OVER THE HOURS WE SLEEP

The next time you’re Called to Pray, refer to the 8 Watches by the Time of Day. The Bible refers to Watchers from Above (‘iyr in Hebrew) in Daniel 4:13, 17, 23. We’re called to our prayers by high-ranking angelic beings sent from heaven to observe and execute divine decrees. You may find the reason you were called to pray by the watch of the Day.

THE EIGHT WATCHES

Night Watch

  • First Watch: 6 pm – 9 pm – Contemplation and laying foundations in prayer.
  • Second Watch: 9 pm – 12 am – Intercessory prayer for protection of ourselves and those around us
  • Third Watch: 12 am – 3 am – Spiritual warfare (We are covered by the blood of Jesus.)
  • Fourth Watch: 3 am – 6 am – Prophetic prayer because you are commanding your morning with prophetic decrees and declaring God’s word

Day Watch

  • Fifth Watch: 6 am – 9 am – Petitions. Ask for strength and surrender. Ask for the Holy Spirit to help you before you start your day
  • Sixth Watch: 9 am – 12 pm – Thanksgiving prayer
  • Seventh Watch : 12 pm – 3 pm – This is the seventh watch of rest. 7 Biblically represents that. This is a time to seek God in the secret place
  • Eighth Watch: 3 pm – 6 pm – This is the eight and final watch of the night and a time for prayer for revival and renewal. Symbolically, Christ died at 3 pm.

When you feel lost, return to the Inspiration of Day One. Tone 1 of each trecena is the Light of God’s Divine Inspiration for 13 Days.

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom and Tzolk’in calculator preserved on MayanMajix.com

Galactic Tone 10: Manifestation. What were once intentions or ideas, hopes or fears become physically present with the energy of Ten. What is focused upon with attention and intention becomes real with Ten. Ten is a powerful energy that carries a great responsibility.

Wisdom/CIB: The old ones. Wisdom of the ancients. Wisdom persons are aligned with the ancient memories that wait in the stone of temples and sacred sites all over the world. Wisdom people grow luck like a crop using a balance of prudence and tenacity. The tremendous inner strength of this sign enables silent introspection to discover areas of oneself that contain wisdom more valuable than any trove of archaeological treasure. Wisdom persons are valiant defenders of family and community. They may become hardened to life and sentiment turned cold. In these cases, they need much forgiveness for their uncaring errors. Periodically connecting with nature and or visiting sacred sites will bring great stability to wisdom persons.

A GOOD DAY TO: Sit on a rock.

Cherokee, Owl U’GUKU’ : Symbol is the Owl is Arcturus, the brightest Star in the Constellation Bootes. The Cherokee Bear constellation (Ursa Major) includes the Big Dipper plus four stars in Bootes.  Owl is a hunter, who stands for the wisdom and ability of all great hunters, the cunning of a fox, the tenacity of a bulldog and strength of a bear. Energy for deep thinkers, strong-willed, rigid convictions, bold and authoritative.  Owl is the Mystic Ferryman who guides Earthlings on the return path to the stars holding the torch aloft.
