Tonight, Sunday, August 16, 2026, you can see a stunning celestial alignment of a thin, 15%-illuminated crescent Moon hanging remarkably close to brilliant Venus and the bright star Spica.
How and When to Watch
- Direction: Look low toward the western horizon.
- Timing: The peak viewing window is 30 to 45 minutes after sunset, as the twilight deepens.
- Duration: The entire display will drop below the horizon by 9:45 PM to 10:00 PM, so check early.
- Equipment: No telescope or binoculars are needed; both are strikingly bright and visible to the naked eye.
What You Will See
According to astronomy updates from Astronomy.com and EarthSky, the objects form a beautiful geometric pattern tonight:
- The Celestial Triangle: The crescent Moon has moved since yesterday and now sits between dazzling Venus (shining at an intense magnitude of -4.4) and the blue-white star Spica, forming a temporary triangle in the constellation Virgo.
- Earthshine: You will likely see “earthshine” (or the Da Vinci glow) on the dark side of the Moon, which is sunlight reflecting off Earth’s oceans and clouds back onto the lunar surface.
- A Telescope Bonus: If you do use a telescope, Astronomy.com notes that Venus itself will appear as a 48%-illuminated crescent world.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: A magnetic filament erupted from the sun on Aug. 14th and hurled a CME into space. NOAA models predict a glancing blow to Earth on Aug 17th. The impact could spark a G1-class geomagnetic storm with high-latitude auroras.
Earth-facing sunspots now have stable magnetic fields that pose little threat for strong flares. Though, Solar wind is on the way, flowing from Coronal holes should reach Earth on Aug. 20-21.

Galactic Tone 11: Resolution; 11 assists every new thing to find its place in the universe. In the process of ‘fitting in’ some modifications must occur. Eleven is the energy of dynamic actions facilitating change, simplification and improvement.
Transformer/CIMI: Cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Transformer persons achieve goals and emotional wealth. Transformer people can become highly respected business persons. They have the ability to help others through any and all transitions with tranquility due to their spiritual strength and guidance. Communities often benefit from Transformers discipline and organization skills. They strengthen the life of pregnant women and guide them through the transitions of maternity. Establishing contact with the ancestors activates innate psychic abilities, gifts to be used as tools to assist others. The energy brings major changes all throughout life, riding the tsunamis of earthquake and upheaval, making their own waves wherever they go. They undergo powerful transformations, alternating like a flashing neon sign. The challenge is to master Balance while experiencing Chaos leading to re-birth and abundance through infinity.
