THE TRECENA OF DEER/MANIK
MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
On the Peak Tone 7 we’ve completed a climb to the top of the pyramid, and a new phase of Spiritual Growth. Tone 7 holds an Intention of Reflection. At the Highest Altar we have a 360 degree view of all that is, and all that is not. Tone 7 is the Balancing Place that reflects the Great Law of Creation, “As Above, So Below.”
This Spiritual Principle, preserved by the most ancient Mystery Schools, reflects the Truth of Balance in the Universe in every realm of being. What is created in one realm of Consciousness, is Balanced in all others. What we create in our Imagination is Reflected in our world. Everything created began in the realm of our Imagination. Everything we see around us is a manifestation of the Ether of our Dreams. Mother Earth and all of Humanity are manifestations of the Creator’s Dreams.
Reed/BEN illustrates an Altar. Above are the channels of Light that extend from the Above to the Below. Beneath the altar are the thatched prayer mats where Human kneels in Humility. The Reed represents our Spiritual Channel of communication with the Creator. Reed is the Guiding Light for Home and Family. BEN calls us to Bless and Repair the Home of a Divine Family.
On Tone 7 we reflect on the image Above, to measure what will be balanced Below. We also reflect on the Below, to see what will be Balanced Above. Tone 7 represents the scales of Divine Justice.
Every climb builds on the Higher Ground of our last transformation. We ascended from the Jaguar/IX trecena, the Day Sign and nahual of Spirit. We were discovering our Divine Nature. The Deer/MANIK trecena is elevating us to Higher Consciousness of our Divine Meaning and Purpose that will manifest a Major Life Change. (We ascended on 13 Transformer/CIMI, the Sign of a Major Life Change in progress.)
The Jaguar is associated with Tone 7, as the one who guards the Sacred Sites and Temples. The Jaguar waits at the Highest Altar of the pyramid, holding the Earth Magic of Gratitude. Jaguar can see beyond all the dimensions. Jaguar is the shape-shifter who knows all the Love of Life on Earth as the sound of the heartbeat of Mother Earth.
Just as our body was formed in a womb of darkness to be born into the Light, so is Mother Earth the womb of Spirit hidden in the darkness. Everything that was True in our Beginning, is always True. Human walks in darkness so Spirit can be born into the Light. We are surrounded in Love, Nourished in Love, and Provided for by Love. Human must bear the darkness, until, again, we are born into the Light of our Spirit (ie. Remembering the Divinity of the Spark of Life that resides as the Consciousness of Love in the Human Heart). We are One with every living thing that Knows Love.
We are One in a Living Consciousness of Love. Reed/BEN holds the Element of Fire that is capable of transmuting matter from one form to another. Fire is fed by the Element of Air, the Breath of Life and Spirit. We are drawn to look deeply into the Fire and make our own Divine Discernment, reflecting on what it is as a manifestation Below of something Above. We can see it in the Flames of Fire.
In the Highest Place the Maya built on Mother Earth, we’ve drawn our Self close enough to the channels of Love to feel the Flame in our Heart. Volunteering into Divine Service, our Lives are Consecrated by Spirit.
BEN is the Day Sign of Family and Home with particular focus on the Children of the next generation. Reed/BEN represents the authority in the home and community that would establish the parameters for a Divine Way of Living. BEN holds very high expectations for itself and others. The shadow side of BEN reminds us to “rule with a garden hose, and not a steel pipe.” We can’t teach our children about Unconditional Love through rules and regulations. We teach them through a living demonstration of Unconditional Love, Humility, and Forgiveness. Unconditional Love Bends as an out-pouring of Spirit.
On 7 Reed/BEN we’ve completed a climb meant to inspire us to be the Living Demonstration of the Deer, the Mayan priest. Manifesting this transformation, we will be standing in a High Place for all to see. Through an application of Vigilance, the Deer’s Mission is to reflect the Love Above in Service to the Below. Deer/MANIK is also known as the Hand, representing Human’s Divine Destiny as God’s Hand in the world.
Reed/BEN represents Deer/MANIK’s demonstration of Service, how the Intention Above would be manifested and seen in the world below. Our Highest Demonstration of Human Divinity is in Humility, kneeling at the altar before a Divine Creator. This is the demonstration that holds the power of Harmonic Resonance. Just as the community is drawn together when it sees the Mayan priest carrying out a Sacred Ceremony, so are Humans drawn to the Love that Overflows when we are in Communion with the Creator.
The Elders always related Reed to the “hollow bone.” In order to keep this channel clear for a Divine Communion, all the flesh must be removed from the bone. When we clear our Self of all the expectations of our ego, we will receive the “pure light” from above. We won’t put expectations on others to measure up to divinity. Our Divine Demonstration is that we are broken, yet Unconditionally Loved and covered by a Divine Provision. We weren’t to be held up as the shining example of perfection, but as an example of the Creator’s never-ending Love.
If we’re not failing, we haven’t reached High Enough, or Knelt Low Enough. Spiritual Growth requires us to reach beyond what we can already do perfectly. We can learn from the ego, reflecting on the exact opposite of what it leads us to do. A climb for an Intention of Divine Spirit means we’re willing to go far enough to see where we fail. Only when we see the point of failure, do we see where a Divine Provision is made for us. We have to allow other Humans to see us fail, the place where we are drawn low by Knowing a Higher Love.
Reed/BEN calls us into service for the Divine Family of Humanity. BEN is noted as a day to Bless or Repair the Home. In practice, BEN is a day the Maya set aside for Community Service. This is a day associated with offering a helping hand to neighbors, being the Human Hand of God’s provision for a Divine Family. Reed reminds us that we are all the scion of a Divine Creator, one big connected family and first descendant of Divine Spirit.
This morning I was thinking about community and the donations I made to the thrift store. I used to carry everything to Good Will. Now I’m taking it to a church thrift store so the proceeds might better support the immediate community. I was reminded by an article of a charity that supports battered women. I know that donations would be more meaningful to me if they were going to help another woman get back on her feet.
I offer cash to people on the street when I feel Divinely Inspired to do so. Though, I’ve always thought it better to support organizations that offer people a place to turn to. Donations of money are worthy, though this morning I was thinking about the differences between sending a donation of cash, and donating time or effort to service.
I miss the community of church and the community of a Medicine Circle that has yet to be manifested here in the physical realm. Today, I realized other opportunities to manifest a community of shared Divine Intention. This question of “where do I belong” seems to have a very obvious answer. I could volunteer and grow side-by-side with others who hold an Intention of Love and Service.
I’ve had this question of “where’s my tribe?” ever since I moved to the Pacific Northwest, and stuck for the answer. Somewhere I held the idea I’d have to start something myself. Every creation doesn’t have to start from scratch with us. I imagine the Mayan priest would be honored to be present in Humility to share Sacred Ceremonies held by others.
The Meaning and Purpose of our Divine Service is to draw Humanity together and restore our Right Relationship with one another. We don’t build a relationship when we put a check in the mail. Sometimes that’s all we CAN do, though we miss something if that’s ALL we do.
Being of Divine Service restores our Faith in Humanity. When we demonstrate to our self a Human effort of service, we realize we’re not the only one. We see people differently, we see the Love and Service that was already in operation before we showed up. The world looks brighter when we see the Light in one another, just as much as seeing the Light in our Self.
Our friend, Jen, the young daykeeper who lives in a village near Lake Atitlan, says her teacher described Tone 7 at the top of the pyramid as the threshold between the dimensions of the Above and the Below. She said the climb continues upward on the unseen stairs that are a reflection of the stairs below. The top of the pyramid was the place of leaping into the dimension of Spirit.
We are leaping from a Human climb into the transformation phase of Divine Intervention. We stand at the threshold of a Divine Change that is carried out Above by a Divine Agency of Spirit. Our Spirit is weighed for a Sacred Exchange of Divine Justice.
This Balance is measured by the Identity of our Spirit. The Offering we carried to the Highest Altar was our Intention to Love One Another as a Divine Service. We are measured by Intention rather than our Human accomplishment. We won’t earn extra points by a number of donations. We’re measured by the Intention we held and the Light we dreamed of sharing. Our movement of Intention was Human’s contribution of a Divine Vibration of Love that the Creator will manifest in all realms of being. We never earn Spiritual Growth, when we Choose it, it will be manifested as our Divine Justice. An Intention to be something more, to share the Love of our Divine Nature, is the Light and Beauty of Humanity.
This is a day to say prayers for the Whole of Humanity, all the Hearts that Love in the One Divine Consciousness of ALL Life on Mother Earth. Humans are not the only living things conscious of Love. We know our pets are conscious of Love. Which living things would a Divine Creator choose to make unconscious of Love? Which lives are too small, seen unworthy by the Creator to be included in the consciousness of Divine Light?
The Elders taught us how to create in one realm to manifest in another. During a time of separation in my immediate family, I felt I was left without any way to repair this relationship. An Elder suggested that I care for a houseplant with the Intention of Loving it as my family. As I cared for and watered the plant, I imagined it as a demonstration of serving Love to my family. Later, this same idea grew into a balcony garden, created as a demonstration of tending to my own Spirit. The flowers that bloomed there, reminded me of the Beauty growing Above in the realm of Spirit.
We aren’t trying to be a symbol of “better” for others to try to imitate. Instead, as Human we demonstrate that path we follow that leads us out of our own darkness into the Light. The Highest Demonstration of our own Light is our Service of Seeing Light in Others, and believing that we all share this same channel to the Creator. We are all meant to find our own Truth, down on our knees before a Creator. The Mayan priest carries out what a Divine Communion looks like.
To all my relations, may we Know that when we are in Service to the Whole, our Faith will be Transformed into Believing in the Whole. Knowing our own Human limitations and failures, when we see our Self doing it, we’ll know just how many other Human Beings have invested themselves in Loving the Whole. We’ll recognize the Truth of Human’s Divine Nature that is manifested by an Offering of Service. May we see our Self in Humility, as no better or worse, but One of the Whole that is trying to find their way to the Light of Love. All Living Things reach for the Light. May we see others beyond the physical demonstration, to the Heart of the Intention. May we Love the Whole for holding an Intention that is too Divine for Human to carry out. May we see this as the very Strength of our Spirit, that can serve as the Authority over our Human Nature. May we kneel at the Highest Altar offering the Dream of Love we can’t carry out to Receive the Justice of a Divine Intervention. May we know that our Highest Demonstration of Love for the next generation will be our Loving Service to one another. May we do something personal, one-on-one, for someone else today… a direct gift to another Human Being that serves an Intention of Love. May we know that EVERYONE deserves the Service of our Love, especially those who are suffering and unable to give it back.

7 Reed/BEN (Cherokee, Reed/I’HYA)
Galactic Tone 7: Reflective. Seven stands as a mirror to divide light and dark and to reflect all that is and is not. Seven is associated with the source of creation and the flow of Divine Will. With a keen sense of ethics, Seven establishes purpose to current and future goals.
Reed/BEN: Reed persons are the spiritual essence, protectors and guiding light for family and home. They are competent speakers who will take up a cause. Very tough and analytical, Reeds endeavor to bring peace, harmony and order to all of their relations. Reeds are blessed with great skill at negotiations and consoling which are very often put to the test. Although Reeds need a lot of appreciation, may have marriage or business problems because of inflexible vies and high expectations, which erode affinity. The lesson for Reed is to be like a garden hose, not a steel pipe. Bless or repair your house.
Cherokee, Reed/I’HYA: REED- Symbol-Reed is the Earth, reflection of the Star Chaga of Pollux. Reed made up the Magician Twins who led the journey to bring back to life the daughter of the Sun. The Casket is Gemini. Energy for Intellectual minds, creation, re-creation, new directions, breaking the ties that bind. A trailblazer and leader. From the East, direction of success and happiness, no matter what route is taken, always ending up in the Light.
