THE TRECENA OF DEER/MANIK
MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
On Tone 6 we enter the Peak Energy of the trecena. On Tone 6 we engage Momentum through a Rhythm and Pattern of Movement. Our steps of Intention are becoming second nature.
Our Intention as the Deer is to stand in the Truth of Love by being Vigilant of our thoughts. We’re learning to dwell on Beauty and Love, pushing away negative thoughts. Dynamic developments are possible when this movement becomes a habit. It will change the way we express who we are.
Road/EB is the Day Sign of Human, and the Road to Human’s Destiny. EB also represents the Tzolk’in. The K’iche Maya call the Tzolk’in (Cholq’ij) the Saq’ Be, the Sacred/White Road.
Human’s quest is to “know thyself” and experience life through a Divine Perspective. We will always find what we’re looking for. Knowing the Creator, we’ll learn to “Know Thyself.”
EB resides in the South, the direction of our Relationships with one another and the Natural World. When we choose the Sacred Road, we are always drawn into Right Relationship. Road/EB holds the Element of Earth, the womb our body returns to and becomes part of a new generation.
The glyph illustrates the “Road to Destiny” on Human’s head. We fulfill our Human destiny just by living. When we make a Choice to walk in Communion with Spirit, we manifest our Divine Destiny. Through a Choice of Divine Will, we give Permission for Divine Intervention. On either side of the road are the milestones of progress. Road/EB helps us see that we can Choose ANYTHING we want TO BE.
The Sacred Road will change our relationships and our world. The more we follow the path of Spirit, the more it will become a habit and an expression of who we are. The path will help us direct thoughts from our Divine Nature.
Vigilance is the strength we are given in the Deer trecena. The Aztec calendar describes the Deer’s movement as the art of tracking and back-tracking, of spotting and camouflaging, of following tracks and covering tracks. Deer inspires us to Master our lives. Today is a milestone and turning point in our climb. We have the wind at our back, and the momentum of direction.
The Cherokee Rattlesnake Tooth was a Tool of Sacred Medicine. It was used by the shaman to break the skin where the spiritual medicine would be applied. It left a mark of a Divine Healing.
Road/EB encourages us to mark the milestones of our progress. Through Time and a Sacred Road, we can measure the changes. We can see the Truth that we are more today than yesterday. We’ll notice it through our relationships.
Human is called the “bearer of time.” Road calls for a long-term effort of tenacity. Through our Choice, the Creator will provide the inspiration and power, and the renewal and regeneration.
The Aztec say this is a Good Day for those who are suppressed, and a Bad Day for their suppressors. The Day Sign is Grass (Malinalli), representing our perennial nature, and marking a day to put down roots, creating alliances that will stand the test of time.
Grass can’t be held down forever. It will always find a way to spring to life again. Grasses were the first most prevalent vegetation on the planet, both on land and sea. Grass is Humble and Resilient under foot. Grasses are Moved by the Breath of the Creator.
My Grandma Naomi talked about the Tall Grass Prairies of Kansas near the Oklahoma border. Fields of grass grew so high that when someone approached on horseback, you might only see their hat. The Above and Below are Balanced in these Tall Grasses. Grasses 6 feet tall, have roots extending 6 feet below. Grasses hold earth together.
The calendar has manifested a resilience in my life. I’m not afraid of life anymore. Once I only saw darkness in my future, convinced the happy days of my life were over. Now I look forward to unexpected Miracles coming true. Following the Tzolk’in led me out of a decade-long depression. Committing to a daily practice in October 2015, within 260-days I saw a new future. My Truth became my most important Truth, and the Creator’s Love became the most important Love.
The Elders on the shaman path say our dark suffering is “The Calling.” The Creator is always waiting at our Human limits. When we give up, grasping the Ether of Spirit is the only thing we will think of to do. The calendar was the only thing I knew to do, when I had no idea what to do. Our prayers always find a way when the Creator Intervenes on our Behalf.
When we naturally shift to our Divine Nature, Unconditional Love will fall in place. We’ll be identified by Love. We will Love our Self for doing what the Creator Dreamed we’d do. A Miracle is Balanced Above and Below.
One of my early Intentions was that my daily waking-nightmares would go away. I had never thought of using an Intention for this purpose. It was a wild idea. The change was dramatic in 13 days. I’ve never had another one since 2015. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m not afraid of knowing the Truth. Each new Truth has been a milestone of progress that carried me to Higher Ground. (I’ve been a well-practiced worrier for as long as I can remember. The Absence of Fear has changed everything.)
Road/EB is a good day to see what obstacles can be cleared from our path. Considering all the Choices, its easy to forget the most important things. My car had to totally fall apart before I HAD to make it an Intention. I was so sure it was impossible, while I’m writing about all possibility.
The dream on my mind at the ending of the last round was that I could “Love to Clean.” There wasn’t much evidence of progress until this trecena. Without much thought, this week I scrubbed floors, corners and baseboards. As long as I was on the floor, I emptied and washed cabinets inside and out. I cleaned out and washed my car, cleaned all the laundry, and made a decent haul to the thrift store. I stand on the Truth it is a Miracle. I see lots more I want to do.
To all my relations, may we See and Acknowledge that we are picking up steam. May we reconsider what kinds of things we think are impossible. We can ask the Creator to help with ANYTHING that is a Blessing to the Whole, when we Offer the Outcome to Divine Will. We are still in our process of germination – finding our way through the dark and navigating around and through our obstacles. Our most important Dream right now is not the lofty one so far off, but the little impossibilities that we deal with every day. May we give thanks for the Faith to complete our climb. The Creator of Beauty from the macro to the micro, saw to the beauty of every moment in Time. May we know that our Greatest Miracles are always things we can’t do for our Self.

6 Road/EB (Cherokee, Rattlesnake Tooth/KANU’GA)
Galactic Tone 6: Six is responsiveness and the art of negotiation. It is the movement of volume through space that creates time. This energy in action is like the art of dance or a great athlete in motion. Six facilitates dynamic developments in all aspects of life.
Road/EB: The bearer of time and conductor of destiny; also known as Human; these persons open the road and guide to the future groups, communities and individuals alike. Likable, obedient, dedicated hard workers and organizers, Road persons are fortunate in business and travel. Many become care takers of the poor, sick, or old people, where they may make personal sacrifices. Road is sometimes referred to as the sign of grass, which is the most bountiful of all life forms, but is also the most humble. Road persons are affectionate and emphatic; they are easily hurt but slow to anger. Holding in of negative emotions and unexpressed resentment can lead to illness, a poisoned opinion of others and a false bravado for this sun sign.
Cherokee, Rattlesnake Tooth/KANU’GA: Symbolized by a rainbow, the delicate display of electromagnetic rays of the SUN. Rattlesnake Tooth is the Natal day sign of Medicine, the Shaman, the Priest, the Healer, and the Sorcerer. Guardian of the Way, Keeper of the Keys of the secret Kingdom.
