Tracer Fire, Taken by David Wilson on October 20, 2025 @ Inverness, Scotland
Dark Skies and Heavenly Lights
SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 10/21/2025
HYDROGEN TRACER FIRE: Magnetic fields on the sun are strong. Yesterday, amateur astronomer David Wilson caught them effortlessly holding a trillion kilograms of hydrogen 50,000 km above the surface of the sun:
“This was a strange prominence on the western limb,” says Wilson. “It had a very bright plasma blob suspended in space with lots of fainter streamers writhing around it. The colors reminded me of tracer fire over a city in WW2.”
The glowing globule Wilson photographed was about the same size as Earth, but vastly lighter. A trillion kilograms (1012) is roughly the mass of a small comet. It is a vivid reminder of how tenuous the sun’s outer atmosphere really is.
Still, have you ever tried to lift a trillion kilograms?
COMET LEMMON’S CLOSEST APPROACH TO EARTH: It’s happening tonight. Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) is making its closest approach to Earth, only 0.6 AU away. The comet is about as bright as a 4th magnitude star, making it a borderline naked-eye object that looks terrific through small telescopes. Look northwest after sunset:

The Brightest Comet of 2025 Is Coming This October — Don’t Miss Comet Lemmon!
October 21-27
Early in the week, C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is visible in both the evening and morning sky in Boötes. Starting around October 24, it’s an evening-only object as it moves into Serpens.
Comet Lemmon reaches its closest to Earth on October 21, and the same night is the New Moon! This is one of the best times to see the comet — look northwest of the Big Dipper at around 19:00 local time. Elongation ~37°.
But that’s not it: one of the best meteor showers of the year, Orionids, also reaches its peak of activity that night, so you can hunt the comet and catch shooting stars in a single observation session.
StarWalk offers complete details for dates and locations.

The New Moon in Libra, October 21, 2025 begins the cycle of the Full Beaver Moon, November 5, 2025… the closest and brightest Supermoon of the Year. Libra’s Intention at the beginning is Justice that Balances the Scales.

Orionid Meteor Shower 2025: Where & How To See It In October
Peaking October 21, 2025

Get ready for a dazzling celestial spectacle! The Orionids will peak on October 21, delivering up to 20 meteors per hour under perfect observing conditions — the peak coincides with the New Moon. As an extraordinary bonus, you can see two bright comets — Lemmon and SWAN — on the same night!
Orionids are considered a major meteor shower. They are active from October 2 to November 7, producing their peak rates of meteors around October 21. On this day, the average number of meteors is approximately 20 per hour, which is more than any other meteor showers of October and even November produce.
The radiant point of the Orionids is located in the constellation Orion, to the north of the bright star Betelgeuse. However, Orionid meteors can appear all over the sky, flying at the speed of 66 kilometers per second. Some of these meteors leave glowing “trains” that are incandescent bits of debris in the wake of the meteors. Those “trains” can last from a few seconds up to a minute, creating a spectacular picture in the sky for observers from the Earth.

StarWalk Astronomical News: Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN)

Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN: General Info
Type: non-periodic comet
Orbital period: 20,000+ years
Perihelion: September 12, 2025
Closest approach to Earth: October 20, 2025
Maximum brightness: possibly up to mag 4
Best visible from: Southern Hemisphere; Northern Hemisphere after the closest approach
Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN reached its perihelion on September 12, passing about 0.5 AU from the Sun, just outside Mercury’s aphelion. This comet belongs to the non-periodic type but is not a first-time visitor to the inner Solar System, which increases its chances of surviving the journey.
After perihelion, the comet’s brightness reached a magnitude of 7 to 6.5. It remains unclear whether this was caused by a sudden outburst or a gradual increase in brightness. If the latter is true, the comet could continue to grow brighter as it approaches Earth, coming as close as 0.261 AU.
Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN Right Now
Right now, Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN is passing through the constellation Ophiuchus. At a magnitude of around 6, it can be observed with binoculars or captured with a camera equipped with a 200 mm lens.

Galactic Tone 11: Resolution; 11 assists every new thing to find its place in the universe in the process of ‘fitting in.’ some modifications must occur. Eleven is the energy of dynamic actions facilitating change, simplification and improvement.
Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.
A GOOD DAY TO: Be of service to others.
Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions. Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer: A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician. Ability to create harmonic resonance.
