SUNSPOT ARCHIPELAGO: Sunspots are magnetic islands on the sun. Sunspot AR4366 is a complete archipelago with more than 200,000 miles of island chain:
Amateur astronomer James Kevin Ty took this picture on Feb 3rd from his backyard observatory in Manila. “This sunspot started as an inconspicuous pore just a few days ago. Since then it has grown hugely in size!” he says.
The island metaphor is apt. Sunspots are buoyant concentrations of magnetism that float on a sea of solar plasma. Archipelago 4366 consists of one big island twice as wide as Earth plus dozens of lesser isles ranging in size from US states to small planets.
AR4366 is currently facing Earth, and it poses a threat for X-class solar flares. Such flares can cause shortwave radio blackouts and, if they hurl a CME in our direction, strong-to-extreme geomagnetic storms.
Comparing the Carrington Event of 1859
AR3664 in May 2024 was the last Sunspot that rivaled a comparison. The growing Sunspot AR 4366 will transit its Earth-facing position for the next 3-4 days.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: NOAA says that minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are likely on Feb 5-6 when a CME is expected to graze Earth’s magnetic field. The CME was hurled into space by a powerful X8-class solar flare on Feb.1st. Even a glancing blow from such a CME can be potent, so don’t be surprised if the storm is stronger than expected.
The Carrington Event
On the morning of September 1, 1859, English astronomer Richard Carrington was sketching sunspots through dark filters. Around 11 am, he saw a sudden flash of intense white light from the area of the sunspots. The whole event lasted five minutes. But what followed about 17 hours later was even more remarkable.
The Earth’s magnetic field trembled as a massive solar storm hit our planet. This wasn’t just any storm; it was a geomagnetic storm so strong that telegraph systems across Europe and North America went haywire. Operators received shocks, and machines worked even when unplugged. Auroras, usually seen in polar regions, dazzled skies as far south as Cuba and Hawaii, turning night into day. According to NOAA, gold miners in the Rocky Mountains woke up and made coffee, bacon, and eggs at 1 AM, thinking the Sun had risen on a cloudy morning.
But the beauty came with chaos. Telegraph lines across Europe and North America sparked, caught fire, and shocked operators. Incredibly, some systems kept running even after their batteries were disconnected, driven only by the storm’s raw electric currents flowing through the wires.

What if This 1859 Solar Storm Happened Today?
Back then, the telegraph was just about the only communication technology they had. Today, such a storm could severely damage satellites, disable communications by telephone, radio, and TV, and cause electrical blackouts over whole continents. It could takes weeks or longer to fix the damage.
Solar storms like the one in 1859 happen only about every 500 years—thankfully. But smaller storms happen frequently, and storms half as intense as the 1859 storm happen about every 50 years.

This is the Season to be prepared for weather that can change the landscape of our life. The first cycle of light in a new Tzolk’in round is the legend for the journey ahead. The Sun is the symbol of the Supreme Lord of Creation. In the trecena of Crocodile/IMIX God makes his presence known through a Divine Channel of Spiritual Communion.
The Earth reached Perihelion on January 3, 2026, it’s closest position to the Sun. The Carrington Event occurred when we were near Aphelion, Earth’s farthest distance from the Sun. The Creator has the ways and means to change our everyday lives. The Sun is the Source of Life, Light, and Happiness on Earth. The Sun can set the world on fire.

With any luck, proton storms could start us thinking again to raise our powers of Divine Discernment. In the Haab Year 9 Earth/CABAN (2020) the Earth isolated us for the Time to think about it. In 2026 that Creator could have the last Word as we close the Haab Year 1 Wind/IK – a symbol of the Power of God’s Word. God could forge connections within and disconnect us from our cell phones long enough to remember the Beauty of Life on Earth. Of course, such an event would likely “appear to be” a catastrophe at first when we lose control. Though, it’s Time to let go and let God.

Reed/BEN: Reed persons are the spiritual essence, protectors and guiding light for family and home. They are competent speakers who will take up a cause. Very tough and analytical, Reeds endeavor to bring peace, harmony and order to all o their relations. Reeds are blessed with great skill at negotiations and consoling which are very often put to the test. Although Reeds need a lot of appreciation, may have marriage or business problems because of inflexible views and high expectations, which erode affinity. The lesson for Reed is to be like a garden hose, not a steel pipe.
