SPACEWEATHER: Earth Reaches Aphelion, Arriving Sunspot 4482, Nature’s Fireworks

Earth’s Farthest Distance from the Sun

Earth reached Aphelion today, July 6, 2026, at 17:30 UTC (12:30 PM CDT). The Days of Earth’s Perihelion and Aphelion positions are significant astronomical measures, though they are rarely acknowledged in the news.

  • Aphelion is the point of the Earth’s orbit that is farthest away from the Sun. It always happens in early July, about 2 weeks after the June solstice,
  • Perihelion is the point of the Earth’s orbit that is nearest to the Sun. This always happens in early January, about 2 weeks after the December Solstice.

The words come from ancient Greek, in which helios means “Sun,” apo means “far,” and peri means “close.”

At Aphelion, Earth was roughly 94.5 million miles (152.1 million kilometers) away from the Sun, about 3.1 million miles farther than at its closest point (perihelion). Despite being at its farthest point from the Sun, the entire planet actually receives about 7% less intense sunlight, though the distance does not dictate the seasons. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere is caused by the planet’s 23.5-degree axial tilt, which points the northern half of the globe towards the Sun for longer, warmer days.  (Old Farmer’s Almanac)

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 07/06/2026

EARTH AT APHELION: Today, July 6th, Earth is at the most distant point in its yearly orbit around the sun–a point called “aphelion.” We are about 3% farther from the sun than we are in January. This has almost no effect on summer heat, however, because seasons are dominated by the tilt of Earth’s axis, not slight differences in orbital distance.

Emerging Sunspot 4482

A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SUNSPOT: A big new sunspot (AR4482) has just emerged over the sun’s southeastern limb, and it is potentially dangerous. On July 4th, it produced an X1.3-class solar flare while it was still partially hidden. Today, Maximilian-Vlad Teodorescu was able for the first time to photograph the entire active region (right).

“AR4482 is now the main attraction on the sun, with lots of activity,” says Teodorescu.

This sunspot is turning toward Earth, and if it produces any more solar flares, we will be in the strike zone. NOAA analysts estimate a 75% chance of M-class flares and a 20% chance of X-flares on July 6th.

MOTHER NATURE’S FIREWORKS: When you hear loud thunder, the National Weather Service has some pointed advice: Avoid tall objects. This picture of New York City on July 3rd shows why:

“After another day of record-breaking heat, lightning danced across the city’s skyline,” says photographer Alex Krivenyshev of Manhattan. Bolts were touching the tips of almost every tall building.

Why does lightning do this? Simple. Lightning is just a giant spark between a cloud and the ground. Like any spark, it takes the shortest path it can find. A skyscraper is, essentially, the ground reaching up closer to the cloud. An antenna tower, a steeple, a lone tree in a field–each one shaves distance off the trip, so the bolt prefers it.

Caveat Skyscraper: Avoiding skyscrapers is no guarantee of safety. Krivenyshev took this picture during the same storm–a little too close for comfort even at ground level.

The Last Quarter of the Full Honey Moon, July 7, 2026 (MoonGiant.com)

The Lightning in New York is a Sign of things to come. The Last Quarter of the current Lunar cycle marks the turning of the tides that build to the new Lunar cycle that begins with the July 14, 2026 New Moon, and leads to the Full Thunder Moon, July 29, 2026.

July’s full moon is called the Full Thunder Moon, after the frequent thunderstorms that roll in during early summer. Thunderstorms are more likely to form in humid environments during summer because of the moist, hot air rising from the ground to the higher, colder parts of our atmosphere. The Full Thunder Moon is, therefore, a warning sign for a surprisingly dangerous time of the year.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity

9 Serpent/CHICCHAN holds the Intention for Patience to see the Big Picture. CHICCHAN is the Force of the Creator’s Light as the touch of God’s Hand. The Truth can move us like an earthquake. If we fail to take this step there is much suffering to bear for the lack of Divine Insight.

Earth positioned at Aphelion offers us a view of the Sun with the most expansive view of its place in the universe. The Sun and the Earth are synchronized in the perfect Time and Place to see the Big Picture. The tides that turn tomorrow begin to rise in the Lunar Phase that leads to the greatest display of God’s Glory in a month of Lightning and Thunder. Just Beyond the Full Thunder Moon, the Earth stands straight up in alignment with its poles, accounting for the 23-degree tilt on its axis. Known as the Lion’s Gate, a door is opened to the Light of the Sun and the expanse of Darkness that surrounds it.

The cycle of Earth/CABAN is a Clarion Call from the Forces of Nature under the Sovereign Authority of the King of the Universe. We’re called to our feet to stand in Faith of the Light that Overcomes the Darkness. We bear the equal wait in a trial of Faith by Fire. The Lion’s Gate about 7 Days before August 8, 2026 (Earth’s most upright position), and closes about 7 Days after.

We are prepared by the Force of God’s Hand and a Quickening of Spirit that turns our Hearts and Minds to the Light of the Only One who can see us through. 9 is the symbol of a creation that is “finished”. When we claim a creation is finished, by Divine Design, we step back to see “the work” through the “Eyes of the Beholder”. The way to cross the threshold is to allow our Self to be seen as we truly are. We are called to present our self to the Father in Humility through the Act of Confession. It it is an important Time to Forgive… and to Ask for the Almighty One to save our Soul. As a Hand of God we’re called to pray for one another in Fear of the Lord and the promise of Divine Justice for all.

Galactic Tone 9: Patience. The energy of Nine is one of the getting a better perspective of the bigger picture. With the energy of Nine plans or patterns begin to come to completion. Nine requires patience and perseverance that is found in the bigger picture, otherwise there is great suffering from the lack of insight. The completion of cycles of action is all-important to Nine.

Serpent/CHICCHAN: Movement and the creation of time. Sensual and dramatic, this sun sign embodies intense instinctual wisdom and creates a connection from Earth bound, to Heavenly aspirations. By sincere service to others, Serpent opens and expands its heart. Serpent aligns authority and the truth to bring justice that is quick and sure. Serpents are very adaptable, even fluid until trapped in a corner, and then they explode. Serpents, venomous temper poisons itself as well as others by creating resentful, suppressive and even destructive attitudes.

A GOOD DAY TO: Ask for Flexibility and Fluidity.

Cherokee, Serpent/DO’TSI: Serpent’s symbol is Constellation Serpens. Serpent people are Sky people who come to earth periodically as Educators. As above-So below, on Earth the Serpent is the roots of the tree of knowledge. Serpent power is vital energy, the moving force, the instinct and desire for creativity, the trigger that sets off the action. It lights the fuse that magnifies and explodes the life force itself. Knowledge, combining science, technology and psychology, plus spirituality are seeded on the planet.
