October 24: Venus at greatest western elongation
On October 24, at 00:05 GMT (October 23, 8:05 p.m. EDT), Venus will be farthest from the Sun in the sky, shining at a magnitude of -4.4. At the moment of greatest elongation, Venus (positioned in the constellation Leo) will be 46.4° away from our star. It’s a perfect time to observe Venus, as the planet will have a chance to climb high in the sky before the sunlight hides it from view. Look for Venus above the eastern horizon during the predawn hours.
