MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
Tone 3 presents our first day of Movement in the Monkey/CHUEN trecena. Guided by Reed/BEN our awareness is drawn to a channel of communication that connects us with the Divine. The Reed glyph illustrates an altar by its horizontal line. The vertical columns above are like the hollow-tubes of Reed through which Spirit Descends for a Divine Communion. And below, the prayer mats illustrate our way of entering into relationship is by kneeling in Humility.
Through a mindset of Humility we are fully open to receive Divine Guidance. We are able to set our reasoning mind aside in surrender to the reality that we don’t have all the answers. We can accept our imperfection. Seeing how our own thinking is often flawed by the ego, we can let go of our attachment to perfection.
Our visit to an altar within is a “time out.” This is a place we would expect to rest for a while, waiting silently for Divine Inspiration. The Monkey, who would inspect all the details with intent curiosity. Our inspiration requires our Presence in the Moment. On the first day of Movement, the Weaver of Time might slow us down to take all the time we need. Through Humility we are able to drawn down the Light of the Creator.
Both the Core Days and the Monkey/CHUEN impact our awareness of Time. We can see the impact around us. News changes hour-by-hour. On one extreme, I’ve felt stuck in the moment – unable to “move on” from things. On the other hand, days go speeding by.
It’s our Human Nature to be in a hurry. We rush to an immediate solution. We skip right over the Magic of our Imagination – the source of our most innovative solutions. It’s only our ego that’s in a hurry… fearful of brokenness. Anchored by Divine Intention, we can take all the Time we Need. There’s no rush – we’ll always be broken. It will be worth it when we can see the purpose.
We are in the middle of very big change as we pass through the center of the Tzolk’in. All we can see is the chaos, but at least we are more than half-way through. On 11 IMIX we’ll enter the 8th Uinal of Divine Justice. One more week before we emerge as a butterfly.
I see so clearly BOTH my Higher Self and my Shadow. Can they both exist together? I haven’t discerned whether the 200 postcards I’ve sent to various public officials show the best or worst of me. I’m reaching for my Highest Way of Living in the world, while distributing strong opinion in ALL CAPS and contrasting colors. Whatever change we are going through will be more fun if we have to wait for the answers.
Reed/BEN is a Day Sign that seeks Harmony in the Family. “Family” are those chosen relationships that offer the freedom of Unconditional Love. Our Spirit’s Home is a quiet place within where we would take our shoes off and stay a while – a place to shut the door and leave the noise of the world outside. As Tone 3 brings the energy to take action on a new Sacred Intention, Monkey teaches us to take our Time, and Reed/BEN reminds us of a sanctuary within.
To all my relations, may we be persistent in our effort to live in our authenticity. The Monkey trecena would have us see the humor in our struggle of simply being who we are.
in lak’ech, i am another you

21 DAYS of CEREMONY: 1 Monkey/CHUEN marked 21 days to the K’iche Maya New Year celebrated on 8 B’atz (8 Monkey/CHUEN). Observing 21 days of prayer and sacred ceremony is a traditional preparation for the observance of the Tzolk’in calendar New Year, which is also the Initiation of the Mayan Daykeepers.
CORE DAYS: Kins 121-140 represent the 7th Uinal of Balance, the Core Days of the Tzolk’in as observed by Yucatec tradition. We complete the last 10 days of the Core Days under the Monkey/CHUEN trecena, moving to the 8th Uinal of Justice on 11 Crocodile/IMIX.

3 Reed/BEN (Cherokee, Reed/I’HYA)
Galactic Tone 3: Action. Three is basic movement and communication, which begins as a vibration. Three energy is very eloquent in all types of self-expression. Communication is how Three establishes a point of agreement between any point “A” and any point “B”. Three persons are rhythmic to the core and are often restless, as motion is their nature. By working closely with the energy of Three, any person becomes more able to predict motions of all kinds.
Reed/BEN: Reed persons are the spiritual essence, protectors and guiding light for family and home. They are competent speakers who will take up a cause. Very tough and analytical, Reeds endeavor to bring peace, harmony and order to all o their relations. Reeds are blessed with great skill at negotiations and consoling which are very often put to the test. Although Reeds need a lot of appreciation, may have marriage or business problems because of inflexible vies and high expectations, which erode affinity. The lesson for Reed is to be like a garden hose, not a steel pipe. Bless or repair your house.
Cherokee, Reed/I’HYA: Symbol-Reed is the Earth, reflection of the Star Chaga of Pollux. Reed made up the Magician Twins who led the journey to bring back to life the daughter of the Sun. The Casket is Gemini. Energy for Intellectual minds, creation, re-creation, new directions, breaking the ties that bind. A trailblazer and leader. From the East, direction of success and happiness, no matter what route is taken, always ending up in the Light.
