MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
On Tone 10 of Manifestation we are greeted by Sun/AHAU, our Source of Light, Life, and Happiness. Today we are given the Light that brings into focus a Truth of what we have accomplished.
The Monkey/CHUEN trecena has led us through a cycle of introspection. We’ve been learning to draw upon the Light of our own Spirit. The last 20 days have tested us to see something in ourselves. We have experienced our own darkness in an effort to Challenge and Strengthen our own Light. 10 Sun/AHAU celebrates a major accomplishment.
Sun/AHAU is the Creator of a world where we could play, inspect life, and create a world of our Own Expression. We can see how Our World, always moving, can easily go off course when no one is “behind the wheel.” Consciousness and Intention are the Spiritual Tools capable to keep us on a steady course.
A visit from the Sun is said to be a day of Realization. All things are brought to New Light. Illusions that were in the shadows are seen in the full-light of day. Sun also brings greater detail and clarity to the Truth we already knew.
Sun is a Yellow Day Sign of the South. Yellow Day Signs are said to carry a purpose of Completion. As the Day Sign that completes every 20-day uinal, Sun/AHAU completes the 7th uinal’s higher intention of bringing us into Balance. South is the direction of our Relationships with one another and the Natural World. New Light will restore us to a Balance of Right Relationship.
Sun/AHAU is the Day Sign that connects us to the Wisdom of our Ancestors. They present us with the examples we can follow. We can receive their knowledge, but our Wisdom is acquired by direct experience. 10 Sun/AHAU offers an opportunity to Experience the Truth of our Progress. Our experience may be presented through the interaction of our Relationships. We may face a situation we’ve faced before, yet realize we see it in an entirely new way. Or we see ourselves responding differently in the light of a new understanding. Sun’s revelation always reminds me of the saying, “Once you’ve seen it, you can’t un-see it.”
The Cherokee Redbird (Storm/CAUAC) re-ignited our Senses so our eyes would be wide open. Sun/AHAU is the Day Sign of the Hero that encourages our Highest Performance. Suns are artistic, heroic athletes, visionaries with wise judgment who lead and defend the people. Sun encourages us to simplify something we saw as a great challenge, so we are able rise and shine with Unconditional Love once again.
I have experienced these core days like stumbling around in my own darkness. Since I started writing this journal, I’ve had little time or interest to watch TV. I found myself drawn right back by the drama of the world, re-attached by the play-by-play of everything that is “wrong.” I saw parts of myself that were difficult to claim as Me. I felt the full weight of a burden I chose to carry. I noticed differences in my daily interactions – the ways I experienced other drivers, and my impatience in the grocery store line. As my effort was applied to rising to these smaller occasions, I unleashed ALL my unspoken frustration through a political postcard campaign.
The most disturbing headlines became postcards sent to “offending” legislators demanding change. It seemed so important that my Voice be Heard, though I was unable to see a “right” way to do it. It became clear I was creating a world that reinforced my illusion of powerlessness. Sun/AHAU reveals the simplicity that the solutions for recreating our world are one and the same with our Effort to Transform our Self.
A breakthrough came for me through the inspiration of a role model… a Hero. Seeing an example of someone taking positive action, I wrote them a postcard of encouragement. After writing 250 postcards, postcard #251 switched to a whole new direction. I immediately Knew that words of encouragement held far more Power than demands for change. My Voice can still be heard, but in the Truth of my Integrity. Through an imbalance I was able to find balance.
To all my relations, may we claim the Power that was received as our Birthright. May our eyes be trained to look for the Light so our Motivation can be Drawn from the Greater Good. May we take stock of Our Highest Aspirations to see the Truth of our own Goodness. May offer our thanks for the Wisdom our Ancestors, and for Heros who reflect our Source of Light, Life, and Happiness. And, may we be the Hero for our Self.
in lak’ech, i am another you

21 DAYS of CEREMONY: 1 Monkey/CHUEN marked 21 days to the K’iche Maya New Year celebrated on 8 B’atz (8 Monkey/CHUEN). Observing 21 days of prayer and sacred ceremony is a traditional preparation for the observance of the Tzolk’in calendar New Year, which is also the Initiation of the Mayan Daykeepers.
CORE DAYS: Kins 121-140 represent the 7th Uinal of Balance, the Core Days of the Tzolk’in as observed by Yucatec tradition. We complete the last 10 days of the Core Days under the Monkey/CHUEN trecena, moving to the 8th Uinal of Justice on 11 Crocodile/IMIX.

10 Sun/AHAU (Cherokee, Flower/GUN’TSI EK)
Galactic Tone 10: Manifestation. What were once intentions or ideas, hopes or fears become physically present with the energy of Ten. What is focused upon with attention and intention becomes real with Ten. Ten is a powerful energy that carries a great responsibility.
Sun/AHAU: Day of the ancestors and connection to their guidance. The divine face of the sun – lord, musician, singer, dancer, and marksman. Suns are artistic, heroic athletes, visionaries with wise judgment who lead and defend the people. So much is expected from themselves and by other people that unfulfilled expectations are a certainty. An accumulation of these disappointments may lead Sun to evade responsibilities, not accept corrections and even build resentment and disdain towards others. Suns should simplify their lives to be able to rise and shine with unconditional love once again.
Cherokee, Flower/GUN’TSI EK: Symbol is the Sun, place of abode of Great Spirit. The Sun creates, nurtures, and is the super communicator, the way station that relays messages and energy from other stars in the galaxy; provides energy for channeling information from the Ancestors; speaking the Living Language of Light, which ignites the consciousness in others. Gold is the color of courage and opportunity of wealth. Creative arts, master craftsman expressing divinity and wisdom through their creations. The face of the flower follows the Sun gathering the fire of creativity, illuminating harmony and balance, resonating peace and continuity within the human spirit. This is the Sign of the Chalice of the Infinite, Caldron of Creation.

NOTE TO SELF: The Monkey/CHUEN trecena leads the closing of the first half of the Tzolk’in, resolving the work of two seasons. It would be helpful to make a note of the Experience and Wisdom acquired from the Monkey. I’m remembering that the Sun/AHAU trecena that closes the Tzolk’in’s 13th uinal feels remarkably similar as a cycle of seeing things in their brightest light.
