PLANETS VS. CITY LIGHTS: Events in the night sky are often invisible to city dwellers. Urban glare makes it impossible to see faint stars and delicate meteors. This week, however, the night sky wins. Venus and Jupiter are in conjunction, and they are nearly as bright as street lights. Jaehyun Sim sends this picture from Seoul, South Korea.
“The planets were so bright, I was able to photograph them using nothing more than my iPhone,” says Sim.
This means anyone, anywhere can see the conjunction. Step outside just before dawn and look east. The two planets are side by side, shining like a brilliant double star in the constellation Gemini.

Details: This morning I programmed a time lapse of 500 shots to capture the conjunction between Jupiter and Venus, placing the camera near a window in my house, and in one of the shots I was lucky enough to capture a bright Perseid!
Perseids (pur see ids): The Next 48 Hours
PERSEID METEOR SHOWER: The Perseid meteor shower is underway, and the best is yet to come. Over the next 48 hours, Earth will plow through a stream of debris from giant Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, producing dozens of meteors per hour under dark skies. Step outside after midnight and watch for bright, fast fireballs streaking from the constellation Perseus. Pro tip: Get away from city lights.

Swift-Tuttle’s 1:11 Orbital Resonance with Jupiter:
The comet’s perihelion is just under that of Earth, while its aphelion is just over that of Pluto. An unusual aspect of its orbit is that it was recently captured into a 1:11 orbital resonance with Jupiter; it completes one orbit for every 11 of Jupiter. Galactic Tone 6: Six is responsiveness and the art of negotiation. It is the movement of volume through space that creates time. This energy in action is like the art of dance or a great athlete in motion. Six facilitates dynamic developments in all aspects of life.
Earth/Caban: Earth/Caban: Keeper of the garden of Earth. Profound synchronistic connections to Earth’s natural cycles and energies provide power of creations and memories of ancient wisdom. Earth persons help dispel bad intentions, habits and ideas. This makes them very good counselors and masters of all arts. Studious and intelligent, Earth persons endeavor to bring a flow of natural order to all aspects of life. Being connected to the dynamic forces of nature, Earth persons need much liberty to facilitate their expression of migration or the sending of long distance communications such as the whales, elephants, birds and many other creatures. Heron is symbolized by Deneb, located in the Northern Cross beside the Milky Way. The Heron is a symbol of the Phoenix.
