PUTTING THE “MEGA” IN MEGACONSTELLATION: Two months ago, headlines announced a Space Age milestone: SpaceX now has more than 10,000 active Starlink satellites circling Earth–two-thirds of all the working satellites in the sky. Analysts were gobsmacked by the pace of change.

Turns out, that’s nothing. Back in January, SpaceX had already filed paperwork asking the FCC for permission to launch a million. The proposed megaconstellation would become a solar-powered AI data center, requiring hourly rocket launches carrying a million tons of satellites per year.

 

Condemnation was swift. Critics pointed out that the new satellites could outnumber visible stars, altering the appearance of the night sky. Moreover, the traffic jam could bring Earth orbit to the doorstep of “the Kessler Syndrome” — a dangerous cascade of satellite collisions.

“The industrial scale of this is staggering,” satellite expert Jonathan McDowell (recently retired from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics) told Sky&Telescope, adding that it might even be a publicity stunt.

While much criticism has focused on night-sky light pollution and orbital safety, there’s an even bigger issue: The effect on Earth’s atmosphere. Satellites change the atmosphere twice: On the way up (via rocket exhaust) and again on the way down (via reentry debris). Researchers are only beginning to understand what happens at scale.

The “black carbon problem” is a good example. Almost every rocket deposits black carbon (residue left over when carbon-based fuels do not burn completely) into the upper atmosphere. It’s like the black soot inside a chimney. Black carbon can be tricky. By absorbing sunlight, it heats the atmosphere. By shading sunlight, it cools the atmosphere. So, while researchers are sure that black carbon will tip the atmosphere’s thermal balance–they don’t know which way (Maloney et al. 2022; Barker et al. 2026).

Reentries are just as bad. Consider this: For millions of years, natural meteoroids have been adding about 10,000 to 20,000 tons/year of material into Earth’s atmosphere. Humanity is about to match that total. No later than 2040, disintegrating satellites will put as much material into the atmosphere as meteoroids do (Maloney et al. 2025; Sharma 2024). Unlike meteoroids, however, satellites are rich in industrial alloys. A million years of meteor bombardment doesn’t tell us what a million satellite reentries might do.

NOAA has already detected the first signs of change. About 10% of sulfuric-acid droplets in the stratosphere contain metals from disintegrating spacecraft (Murphy et al. 2023). Aluminum oxides found in these droplets are a concern because they help destroy ozone, our planet’s sunscreen.

Studies attempting to predict the effects of megaconstellations have proliferated since the Starlink program began in 2019. The catch is that nearly all of the forecasts assume Starlink-sized swarms of a few tens of thousands of satellites. A million satellites is another problem entirely.

What is a planetary conjunction?

In simple words, a planetary conjunction occurs when two or more planets appear close to each other in the sky. Such proximity of planets is an optical illusion — in reality, they are very far away from each other.

During a conjunction, celestial objects — such as planets, the Moon, asteroids, or stars — share the same right ascension or ecliptic longitude and appear close together in the sky.

On June 9, Jupiter and Venus — the two brightest planets in the night sky — will appear close together in the evening sky, above the northwestern horizon.

With magnitudes of –1.8 for Jupiter and –4 for Venus, the pair will be strikingly bright and easy to spot with the naked eye. This beautiful conjunction has earned its place on our list of the  best astronomical events of 2026.

Everything will be okay. One million satellites would be 100 times more. The current risk is 3 minutes to satellites falling from the sky, should one lose it’s GPS position and run into another. 100 times more and what are the odds they don’t bump into each other?

Elon Musk is on track to become the world’s first trillionaire, with his net worth sitting between $600 and $850 billion. His anticipated push to the $1 trillion mark is primarily driven by the massive public valuation of SpaceX, which is preparing for a blockbuster IPO

If he’s cooking his numbers with a projection of 1,000,000 Starlink satellites, that may be a Sign of the stock value, and the stock you might take in what Elon Musk says. His IPO depends on people scrambling to give him their money. As far as a stunt, he has no “fear of the future”. He thinks he rules the world. I expect the “paperwork asking the FCC for permission” is a document included in the prospectus.

Galactic Tone 9: Patience. The energy of Nine is one of the getting a better perspective of the bigger picture. With the energy of Nine plans or patterns begin to come to completion. Nine requires patience and perseverance that is found in the bigger picture, otherwise there is great suffering from the lack of insight. The completion of cycles of action is all-important to Nine.

Transformer/CIMI: Cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Transformer persons achieve goals and emotional wealth. Transformer people can become highly respected business persons. They have the ability to help others through any and all transitions with tranquility due to their spiritual strength and guidance. Communities often benefit from Transformers discipline and organization skills. They strengthen the life of pregnant women and guide them through the transitions of maternity. Establishing contact with the ancestors activates innate psychic abilities, gifts to be used as tools to assist others. Transformers can have the ability to send evil intentions telepathically, this is their undoing. Cherokee myth has the Morning Star heralding the Sun, Venus, also being the Evening Star as representing the TWINS. The energy brings major changes all throughout life, riding the tsunamis of earthquake and upheaval, making their own waves wherever they go. They undergo powerful transformations, alternating like a flashing neon sign. The challenge is to master Balance while experiencing Chaos leading to re-birth and abundance through infinity.
