MAJOR FLARE WATCH IN EFFECT: Giant sunspot 4478 has been quiet for days, but the clock is ticking. Now that the sunspot has rotated fully onto the solar disk, we can see that it has a mixed-polarity (delta-class) magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class explosions. A major flare could be in the offing.
