THE TRECENA OF SUN/AHAU: APPLYING THE LIGHT TO LIFE
MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
Peak Tone 8 begins the Transformation phase of the trecena. Marked as a Holy Day, the Number 8 is defined as “pure spirit.” The Intention is Divine Justice, a Gift of Harmony and Equity with the Whole. The 8th hour begins at the end of the Sun’s zenith Light.
Our Highest Truth is the Promise that Life will be Fair. On Tone 8 we are raised to believe the Truth.
Deer/MANIK leads the Divine Path of our Mission and Purpose. The sign of the Mayan priest employs its faculty of Vigilant Consciousness to grasp the Truth of a Divine Power Above. The glyph illustrates the Hand, another name for MANIK, that reaches to grasp a thread of Divine Truth that will complete the circuit to a Divine Source of Power.
MANIK is a symbol of stability, with a leg to stand in each of the 4 directions. The Deer applies the Light to look for the Peace where Faith can stand. There is a place for us that is defended by a Higher One, like the Mayan priest prepares our Holy Ground. MANIK holds the Gift of Harmonic Resonance. When one walks a path of Beauty, others are inclined to follow.
HOLY DAY: INITIATION OF THE MAYAN PRIEST
8 Deer/MANIK marks the Holy Day of a Divine Initiation. We were born as the Scion to reflect the Creator’s Love and a Vision of Beauty. Our Divine Mission is to raise the Truth on Earth. The Deer’s Gift is the Vigilant Eye to see the Truth. Deer/MANIK believes on behalf of the Whole, counting the days that share the Light of Truth. On 8 Deer/MANIK the Maya celebrate the ones that dedicate themselves to the purpose. Our path is consecrated as the Divine Way to complete the end. To fulfill the mission, we only have to train our eyes on the Beauty of moving back and forth, to our Place in the Light.
Through every Offering, the Deer is atoned with the Mind of Divine Consciousness to see the Light of the Truth. The Holy Ground of the Deer is the place where Life Springs forth, knowing the Divine Provision for our Place to Be. At an altar we will remember it’s Here and Now, for the Time that seems so long and the Truth that feels so hard to carry.
Deer/MANIK shares the Spiritual Tools for the Mission. The Mayan priest carries the Medicine Bundle, all the tools passed down before. The Truths we believe are the tools to help us stand. The Deer initiated as the Mayan priest is given the staff. The Faith held by the Mayan priest is in the One that will always maintain the Balance. With every offering we bring we will know a Higher Light for the way. In Humility, we will know we are enough whenever we kneel to the One who is the Power and Authority of Love.
The Deer holds one Special Tool to push beyond every negative thought, a Divine Provision for every Human limitation. The Power of the Gift is knowing there are no exceptions. We can always stand on the Promise that the Love we Give, will be stored like a Treasure to be given back, multiplied to abundance. Seeking the Beauty of Life, Love will always shine on the Beauty that’s hardest to see, the Light in our Self.
The Deer bears the weight of standing in the Light of its own Truth. Deer/MANIK doesn’t have to defend the choices its made kneeling on Holy Ground. The Choices we make in Humility for the Highest Way is Truth that is worthy to stand, because we applied the Intention to see the Whole Truth. We were looking for Beauty. The Choice for Love never needs a Defense Below for the Divine Provision Above.
The Mayan Priest doesn’t have to convince anyone of a Divine Way, but upholds a Promise that the Divine Way was given and when we dedicate the Time to See it, the Truth will stand like Solid Ground.
To all my relations, may we dedicate Time at the altar to give thanks for the Mayan priests we know, all of us that carry on in Faith for a Promise in the Future. May we honor the Prayers that have been spoken for the Whole, the Highest Prayers that we can offer to the One. May we honor every Human whose heart is led to share a Truth of Light. May we honor one that shows the way to Apply the Light to Life, so another might find their way. May we claim the Truth that Love is too Beautiful to ever have and hold, without being drawn to the Mission to pass it on. Love is a Power with a Mission of its own, to complete the beauty of Life everywhere.
May we give thanks for the Ones that led us to a path of Beauty and shared a Light to follow. May we honor a path that is always a climb and bears an investment of the Heart. Upholding the Truth in Silence is never easy for a Human Being. May we claim the way of Love shares a way to stand for the Highest Truth we can believe.

8 Deer/MANIK (Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi)
Galactic Tone 8: Justice. Harmony and balance are the intent of Eight. Eights carefully weigh all evidence to reach a balance of justice. Eight is the power of organization demonstrated in the statement, “As above, so below”. From simplicity to infinity, the energy of Eight organizes all levels of creation. Some Eights are “Neat Freaks”.
Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.
Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions. Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer: A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician. Ability to create harmonic resonance.
