1972 Kosmos 482 Descent Craft, failed mission to Venus, launched March 31, 1972, at 04:02:33 UTC – Its landing module, which weighs 495 kilograms (1,091 lb), is highly likely to reach the surface of Earth in one piece as it was designed to withstand 300 G’s of acceleration and 100 atmospheres of pressure. Russia denied knowing anything about the failed pieces and parts that fell in New Zealand in 1972, though they were later determined to be Soviet in origin because of manufacturing marks and the high-tech welding of the titanium. A “HIGH INTEREST” REENTRY: In 1972, the Soviet Union’s Kosmos 482 spacecraft was supposed to land on Venus. Instead, it’s about to return to Earth. ETA: May 10th, give or take a few days.
“The reentry of the Kosmos 482 Descent Craft will not be your standard reentry,” says satellite analyst Marco Langbroek, who has been tracking the object for years. “The Descent Craft was designed to survive entry through the dense atmosphere of Venus. It will therefore likely survive reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere intact and make a crash landing. This will therefore be a high-interest reentry.”
This spacecraft was part of the Soviet Union’s successful Venera program to explore Venus. Between 1961 and 1984, thirteen Venera probes successfully entered Venus’s atmosphere, with ten landing on the planet’s surface. Kosmos 482, however, never left Earth. The upper stage of its rocket shut down prematurely, leaving it in a 206 x 9802 kilometer orbit that has been decaying ever since.
“With an orbital inclination of 52 degrees, the Kosmos 482 Descent Craft could come down anywhere between 52 degrees north and 52 degrees south latitude,” says Langbroek. “This includes much of south and mid-latitude Europe and Asia, as well as the Americas, Africa and Australia. (An ocean landing is most likely.)”

NOTE: Sunspot 4079 has been called the “second coming” of sunspot 4055. Sunspots are renumbered with each passing on the earth-facing side. 4055 was a massive region harboring potential for solar eruptions. There are currently no major earth-facing coronal holes, though the thematic image reveals a large solar prominence on the side of the Sun where 4076 is emerging from the far side. It takes approximately 7 Days for Sunspots to cross the face of the Sun. If 4076 holds potential for eruptions, it would move into the earth-directed “danger zone” on or before May 7, 2025.

The Signs of a “second coming” and the reentry of a failed Human mission to reach Venus in 1972 are Times Unknown, yet forecast by what is known. The Sun’s eruption is the least known, yet anticipated by what we’ve seen before. Human’s failed mission falling to Earth is the more predictable event, though it holds the potential of a catastrophe, given we don’t know when or where.
