Two Days of High Solar Activity

STRONG SOLAR ACTIVITY: (05/14/2025) – After weeks of calm, solar activity is suddenly high again. The action started late yesterday with a surprising X1.2-class solar flare from the sun’s western limb, followed today by an even stronger X2.7-flare from new sunspot 4087. Earth-orbiting satellites have detected four significant explosions so far:

 

Radiation from the flares has caused a series of shortwave radio blackouts around the world–first over the Americas, followed by southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Ham radio operators may have noticed unusual propagation effects from stations in all directions since May 13th.

Most of this activity has come from new sunspot 4087, which emerged over the sun’s northeastern limb 2 days ago. It is not yet facing Earth. If the explosions continue for a few more days, however, Earth will find itself squarely in the strike zone with geoeffective CMEs heading our way.

SO FAR THE CMEs ARE MISSING EARTH: A fusillade of strong explosions from sunspot 4087 hurled multiple CMEs into space today. So far none of the CMEs appears to be heading for Earth. We are just outside the sunspot’s strike zone. This could change in the days ahead as the active region turns to face our planet.

Yesterday’s News: (05/13/2025)

X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE (UPDATED): Unlikely things do happen. Despite an official 1% chance of X-flares on May 13th (1538 UTC), new sunspot produced an eruption of category X1.2. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash:

The flare caused a brief shortwave blackout over the Americas and it hurled a double-lobed CME into space. A preliminary model from NASA shows the CME hitting Mercury, grazing Venus, and completely missing Earth later this week.

A RADIATION STORM IS BREWING: Protons are raining down on Earth, and the downpour may soon be intense enough for NOAA to declare an S1-class (Minor) radiation storm. The particles were accelerated by today’s X-class solar flare and are being guided to Earth by the Parker Spiral–a magnetic structure that links our planet to the sun’s western limb. So far this is only a minor event, posing no threat to astronauts or air travelers.

Sunspot 4087 holds potential for more flares as it moves into earth-facing position. And, a new coronal hole is emerging to double the possibility more solar storms in the mix.

Galactic Tone 7: Reflective. Seven stands as a mirror to divide light and dark and to reflect all that is and is not. Seven is associated with the source of creation and the flow of Divine Will. With a keen sense of ethics, Seven establishes purpose to current and future goals.

Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.

A GOOD DAY TO: Be of Service to Others

Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions.  Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer:  A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician.  Ability to create harmonic resonance.
