The Light Making Waves
SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 09/26/2025
SHARK’S FIN AURORA: On Sept. 22nd, photographer Karsten Berger of High Level, Alberta, captured a striking auroral shape: a razor-sharp green triangle jutting into the night like the fin of a shark. It may have been the crest of a breaking Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) wave:
“The wind was blowing on Earth and in space,” says Berger. “It was hard to keep the camera steady, but these structures were quite sharp.”
A Kelvin-Helmholtz instability happens when two layers of fluid slide past each other at different speeds. The shear at the boundary makes small ripples, and if the speed difference is strong enough, those ripples grow instead of smoothing out. In auroras, the “fluids” are plasmas set in motion by a geomagnetic storm.
The time sequence photographed by Berger suggests that the wave is breaking or curling into a vortex. Indeed, it might be linked to a newly-discovered phenomenon called a “rolling magnetic carpet.” Space physcists Xiaoyan Zhou (UCLA) and Donald Hampton (U Alaska) described it in a June 17, 2025, Geophysical Research Letter. Basically, Kelvin-Helmholtz waves can curl into such tight vortices that the underlying magnetic fields resemble carpet threads.
Or maybe it’s just a shark’s fin. Have you seen any strange auroral forms? Submit your photos here.
EXITING THE SOLAR WIND STREAM: Earth is exiting a stream of high-speed solar wind that sparked bright Arctic auroras earlier this week. Slackening wind sets the stage for a quiet weekend. Anything is possible, however, because the equinox Russell-McPherron effect can turn even the slightest gust into a good display.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity
12 Wind/IK is Time to “see the Light” of Truth. God reveals the Truth when we ask. The Spirit is willing. The flesh is weak. It takes courage to know. But the Truth always reveals God’s Love in the end.
Wind/IK shares the Truth that can change the whole landscape of our life. Our eyes are directed to see and our ears are opened to hear Truth that is revealed by an Act of God.

Galactic Tone 12: Understanding. This number’s energy is a gift of great capability of retrospection. It is this ability that allows Twelve to connect disassociated parts into a (new) functioning whole. The energy of Twelve is that which presents a new piece of understood information or accumulated experience to be applied.
Wind/IK: Breath of Spirit, breath of life. Winds embody the power of dissemination and planting of good seeds or ideas. Dreamers and planners with powerful imaginations, Wind persons make great orators and they spread the word of spiritual inspiration as it is carried by the wind. Wind is the power behind the movement of natural cycles such as weather, erosion, and cultural change. As the wind, these persons are extremely changeable and adaptable. They may appear inconsistent or fickle to others. Wind can be destructive to self and others by putting on airs. When Winds strut and boast, expanding on facts and accomplishments, they are building the dark clouds of trouble that may become hurricanes.
A GOOD DAY TO: Send Communications of all kinds.
Cherokee, Whirlwind/AGALU’GA: Whirlwind’s symbol is a double spiral helix in rising smoke. Wind brings energy for an Inquiring mind, learning and wisdom. In Cherokee, the constellations are represented by 12 birds (dancers), the 13th bird is the Whirlwind, the lead dancer. This reflects the whirling of life. Wind is the breath of the Universe (matching the Mayan symbol) channel of communication and carries the Sacred Smoke to the Great Spirit (Source- Hunab Ku in Mayan); matches the pulse of the breath of the Cosmos.
