SPACEWEATHER: Farside Sunspot Seen from Mars

Sunspot seen from Mars

Light in the Forecast

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 02/18/2026

THE SUNSPOT REPORT FROM MARS: Almost every day, NASA’s Perseverance rover on Mars looks up the sun. It’s a great way to check the air for dust. Today’s image caught something more–a large sunspot:

Regular readers may recognize it. It’s sunspot 4366, which unleashed six X-class solar flares in early February. We can no longer see the sunspot from Earth, because it has moved to the farside of the sun, but Perseverance has a good view from Mars.

To photograph the sun, Perseverance uses its mast camera (MASTCAM), which puts about 90 pixels across the solar disk. It takes a large sunspot to show up in these low-resolution images. Sunspot 4366 is very large, indeed.

The photo confirms that sunspot 4366 is still intact. It could pose a renewed threat for geoeffective flares when it again turns toward Earth later this month.

A SIGN AT SUNSET

TWILIGHT LUNAR OCCULTATION ALERT: When the sun sets on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, go outside and look west. Mercury and the crescent Moon will be extremely close together low in the twilight sky. Across at least 10 southern US states, the Moon will eclipse or “occult” the planet, producing a photo-op of rare beauty. Resources: sky map | city-by-city timetables | Mercury photos

The Daily Sun

This is the “quiet Sun”. Flares are forecast as unlikely from the Earth-facing sunspots. Though, the large coronal hole is the source of a mighty Solar Wind on the way, expected to reach Earth on Feb. 24th. We’ve learned that anything is possible and weather forecasts sometimes miss the mark.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity

On 1 Deer/MANIK we’re called to take up our staff and follow God’s Divine Mission for our life. We walk by Faith in the Truth that can’t be seen on Earth, as it is in heaven. While we’re beginning a journey to the Light, the Light of the One on the farside is meeting us more than halfway. As we draw closer, the Light of God’s presence will grow as two are united in the Journey as One.

Last time the Sun turned around, the behemoth Sunspot 4366 rivaled the size of the sunspot that produced the Carrington Event in 1859. Solar geomagnetic storms raise the voltage on Earth. In 1859 a massive CME set telegraph poles on fire and set blazes to telegraph offices. Today’s technology could produce a new effect. There are about 9,000 satellites that could be blown out of their orbits. Solar storms can blow satellites back to Earth. Or a change in their position could disrupt GPS systems… lost without a compass.

We’re called to Dwell in the Light of a Sanctuary within, where we hold Faith in God’s Light to share the Truth and the Way.

It only takes 13 days to see how Faith is always raised to Knowing the Truth of Answered Prayers. You only have to track your thoughts. Record the matters on your mind in a journal to see how your perspective is changed by a Divine Order of Thoughts.

1 Deer/MANIK is the 3nd trecena found in “Tzolk’in Field Guide: Volume 1, Seasons 1 and 2”

When you feel lost, go back to Day One. Tone 1 of each trecena is the Light of God’s Divine Inspiration for 13 Days.

1 Deer/MANIK (Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi)  – Day 1 of 13 of the 1 Deer/MANIK trecena

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom and Tzolk’in FREE CALCULATOR on MayanMajix.com

Galactic Tone 1: Unity. One is the beginning of all things, the first, the whole and the all in one. One’s are assertive and self-guided and give a good push to whatever project they are associated with. One persons work best when meeting a challenge. Do not expect One-persons to be attentive to details or to put the finishing touches on things.

Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.

A GOOD DAY TO: Be of Service to others.

Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions.  Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer:  A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician.  Ability to create harmonic resonance.
