New Lunar Phase
The New Moon occurred on May 16, 2026, at 20:01 UTC (3:01 PM CT). The New Moon begins the Lunar cycle of the 2026 Blue Moon that occurs on May 31, 2026, at 08:45 GMT. It is called a Blue Moon because it is the second Full Moon in one calendar month.
The 2026 Blue Moon is also the year’s smallest Micromoon. A Micromoon occurs when a Full or New Moon happens near apogee, the point where the Moon is farthest from Earth in its orbit. From this greater distance, the Moon appears slightly smaller and dimmer than usual.
The last blue moon occurred on August 19, 2024, as both a Monthly Blue Moon and a Seasonal Blue Moon as the 4th Full Moon in the same Season. The next Blue Moon is also a Monthly and Seasonal Blue Moon, occurring on May 20, 2027.
Planets Close to the Moon

From May 11 to May 17, 2026, the Moon will visit the constellations Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, and Taurus. The New Moon falls in Taurus. This week, the most prominent objects near our natural satellite will be:
- May 13–14: planet Saturn (mag 0.9);
- May 14–16: planet Mars (mag 1.3);

From May 18 to May 24, 2026, the Moon will visit the constellations Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and Leo. This week, the most prominent objects near our natural satellite will be:
- May 18–19: planet Venus (mag –3.9);
- May 19–21: planet Jupiter (mag –1.9);
- May 22–23: star Regulus (mag 1.4) from Leo.

StarWalk: 2026 Blue Moon
Date: May 31
Time: 08:45 GMT (21:13 CDT)
Constellation: Scorpius
The exact origin of the term “Blue Moon” is unclear, but some trace it back over 400 years to the English phrase “once in a blue moon,” which means something that happens very rarely. It is also the year’s smallest Micromoon, happening near apogee, the Moon’s farthest distance from Earth.
The Moon will appear about 5.5% smaller and 10.5% dimmer than an average Full Moon. However, to the naked eye, most observers won’t notice a change in size.
The May Blue Moon will shine close to Antares, the bright red supergiant in the “heart” of the constellation Scorpius. In some regions, the Moon will pass in front of Antares, creating a brief lunar occultation. This event will be visible from parts of Antarctica, southern South America (including regions of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia), and nearby areas.

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 05/16/2026
THE SOLAR WIND HAS ARRIVED: A stream of solar wind has engulfed Earth blowing faster than 650 km/s (1.5 million mph). G1-class geomagnetic storms are possible on May 16th as the gaseous stream exerts pressure on Earth’s magnetosphere. Tonight’s New Moon will provide dark skies for high-latitude auroras.

SUPER EL NIÑO, IS THE TERMINATOR TO BLAME? Headlines are buzzing with news that a super El Niño is forming in the Pacific Ocean. A solar physicist saw it coming 3 years ago.

In a 2023 paper, Robert Leamon of NASA and the University of Maryland (Baltimore County) made a striking prediction: The next El Niño would arrive in 2026. He based it on the Terminator, a magnetic event on the sun that ends one solar cycle and ignites the next.
Averaging the past five solar cycles into a “standard cycle” and projecting it forward, Leamon found that El Niños follow about five years after a Terminator. The most recent termination event happened in December 2021, putting the next El Niño squarely in 2026. His model says nothing about the strength of this El Niño, but the timing is spot-on.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity
10 Jaguar/IX is a manifestation of Spirit. The New Moon raises the Tides. It’s Time to plant the Seed of Spirit. Jaguar/IX relates to the Unseen Truth. In the trecena of Serpent/CHICCHAN the Truth is revealed through the heart. This cycle marks the Light of Inspiration for a new beginning and a season of expansion.
CHICCHAN awakens our Gifts of Spirit. As the snake, it relates to the power to shed our old skin from the past. It’s a cycle of expansion, and Revelations that come with a Quickening of Spirit. The New Moon rose in the Eight Watch, the hour when Jesus died on the Cross.
The Eaglets at Big Bear Lake (Sandy and Luna) have learned to feed themselves! Mom still makes sure they get their equal share.

THE TRECENA OF SERPENT/CHICCHAN: AWAKENING THE GIFTS OF SPIRIT

The “Tzolk’in Field Guide” is my gift to download that includes the Count of Days with the aspects for each Destiny Kin and highlights for a personal practice with each trecena. It’s designed as a companion for daily practice.
It only takes 13 days to see how a Divine Intention set at the beginning, always end with the Truth of Answered Prayers. You only have to track your thoughts to stay on course. Often the matters on your mind follow the divine order of Time as the meaning of every Day.
Visit the 13-Day Trecena Guide. to download a free copy. Volume 1 covers the first two seasons of the Tzolk’in, and Volume 2 covers the 3rd and 4th seasons to the end of the Tzolk’in round.
Serpent/CHICCHAN is the 3nd trecena of the 2nd season of the Tzolk’in round, found in Volume 1. There’s something more to see when you discern the meaning of Time for yourself. The meaning of time is revealed by the thoughts on your mind.
NOTE: Tone 1 reflects the 1st Light of Divine Inspiration as the “legend” of this chapter of Time. If you forget where you are, return to Tone 1 to see the “First Light” of Divine Inspiration.
10 Jaguar/IX (Cherokee, Panther/SAHO’NI) – Day 10 of 13 in the trecena of 1 Serpent CHICCHAN
Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), who’s wisdom and Tzolk’in date calculator is preserved on MayanMajix.com
Galactic Tone 10: Manifestation. What were once intentions or ideas, hopes or fears become physically present with the energy of Ten. What is focused upon with attention and intention becomes real with Ten. Ten is a powerful energy that carries a great responsibility.
Jaguar/IX: Born with a deep love of the Mother Earth, Jaguar or shaman is directly tied to the source of all Earth magic. They possess great power of intellect and strength or character through integrity. Jaguar energy is feminine in nature and is the ruling spirit of jungles, plains, and mountains. The spirit of Jaguar inhabits the Mayan temples and is called on to assist in spiritual as well as in material ways. Jaguar is also the god/goddess of gratefulness.
A GOOD DAY TO: Commune and give thanks to Mother Nature.
Cherokee, Panther/SAHO’NI: Panther is symbolized by comets, meteors, shooting stars, fireballs, and magicians. Meteors appearing around the middle of November are Heralds of the Coming of the Light, the Cherokee New Year. Panther is the Shadow of the Sphinx, Herald of the Dawn, guardian of the night when the sun is traveling through the underworld. Panthers have unlimited imaginations, visualizations, and are spellbinding speakers. The Cherokee Totem Jaguar is the guardian of the portals to other dimensions; shamanic abilities will open; multi-dimensional magic; healer, leader, way shower energy when used for spiritual growth. Conducive to pray for grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and wives day. For wisdom at 4 Balances, cunning and protection of Mother Nature. To thank the Earth for sustenance. Ix is the native cunning, enterprising, vigorous, bold and realistic.

I have an app that tells me the % of moon phase; it lets out an alarm when the full moon and new moon occur. I love this.
Hi Spo. What’s it called? That sounds cool. Do you see changes in patients’ behavior at the full moon? My weight tends to follow the tide cycle. I don’t know if it’s an increase in water weight – or increased appetite for a glazed donut. I could track that – and see if the micromoon cycle is an exception. 🙂
