SOLAR FLARE AND RADIATION STORM: Departing sunspot AR3559 erupted Monday morning, Jan 29th (0438 UT), producing a strong M6.8-class solar flare. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash:

 

This flare is going to affect Earth in several ways. It has already caused a shortwave radio blackout over Australia: blackout map. Ham radio operators and mariners may have experienced loss of signal at frequencies below 30 MHz for as much as an hour after the flare.

Next, it is almost certainly going to cause a radiation storm. Sunspot AR3559 is well-connected to Earth. This may seem counterintuitive, because the sunspot is not directly facing us. However, when sunspots are near the sun’s western limb, they can link to our planet magnetically. Take a look at this diagram, and you’ll understand why. It’s called “the Parker Spiral.” Protons energized by the flare are now following the Parker Spiral toward Earth. Within hours, an S1-class (or stronger) radiation storm may be underway.

RARE AURORA CURLS: Regular readers may recall how we have occasionally reported on magnetic sine waves rippling through Earth’s magnetic field, causing the magnetosphere to ring like a bell. (See “A  Musical Note from the Magnetosphere”) On Jan. 16th, Jeff Dai looked up and actually saw one of those waves over the Kerid Crater in Iceland:

“I captured this rare image of ‘aurora curls,” says Dai. “They rippled across the zenith for several minutes.”

Dai, who is vacationing in Iceland from China, asked Xing-Yu Li of Peking University’s Institute of Space Physics and Applied Technology for help in understanding the aurora curls. “Imagine that Earth’s magnetic field is like a guitar string,” says Li. “In Jeff Dai’s picture we are seeing vibrations in that string.” Their wavelength, Li estimates, is several kilometers.

Normally this kind of magnetic pulsation is seen only as a squiggle on a chart recorder. In this case, however, energetic particles from space flowed down the rippling geomagnetic field, causing it to glow with auroral light and write the wave across the night sky. It was a very rare sighting, indeed.

4 Wisdom/CIB offers the Light of Illumination. Tomorrow is 5 Earth/CABAN, the Time ordered as a Clarion Call to Wake-up and remember who we are, and to Live with all our Heart. All the Light seen on Earth is ordered by the Sun, the symbol of the Supreme Lord and Master of Creation.

The Sun is reaching for its Solar Maximum in the 25th cycle of Solar Activity that occurs once every 11 Years. Number 5 is the symbol of Empowerment. 25 = 5 x 5, plus Tone 5 reflects the symbol 555555. Signs suggest that we could “hear” the Light and “see” the writing on the wall between Heaven and Earth. Or, the “very rare sighting” could mean nothing at all.

The energy of 4 sets the parameters, which establish the freedoms and barriers needed to create a game, work, or relationship.

Wisdom/CIB: The old ones. Wisdom of the ancients. Wisdom persons are aligned with the ancient memories that wait in the stone of temples and sacred sites all over the world. Wisdom people grow luck like a crop using a balance of prudence and tenacity. The tremendous inner strength of this sign enables silent introspection to discover areas of oneself that contain wisdom more valuable than any trove of archaeological treasure. Wisdom persons are valiant defenders of family and community. They may become hardened to life and sentiment turned cold. In these cases, they need much forgiveness for their uncaring errors. Periodically connecting with nature and or visiting sacred sites will bring great stability to wisdom persons. A good day to sit on a rock.

The Cherokee Bear constellation (Ursa Major) includes the Big Dipper plus four stars in Bootes.  Owl is a hunter, who stands for the wisdom and ability of all great hunters, the cunning of a fox, the tenacity of a bulldog and strength of a bear. Energy for deep thinkers, strong-willed, rigid convictions, bold and authoritative.  Owl is the Mystic Ferryman who guides Earthlings on the return path to the stars holding the torch aloft.
