MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
4 Deer/MANIK brings the Spiritual Tools to stabilize the climb through the growth cycle of this trecena. Deer/MANIK is symbolized as a grasping hand with fingers completing a circuit with a thread of plasma that connects our Spirit to God. Deer/MANIK is the Day Sign of the Mayan Priest, God’s Hands in the world.
We are completing the 260-day spiritual journey of the Tzolk’in as observed by the Quiche/Maya region of Guatemala. The preparations are already underway for a celebration. We are also being prepared for a new initiation of Spirit.
PORTAL DAY: This is day 2 of our 10-day journey through a Spiritual Portal that thins the veil to other dimensions. The Portal magnifies our Senses to raise our Consciousness to Divine Support and our own Dynamic Nature. As we round the corner toward the Celebration of the Tzolk’in Day Signs, we could imagine each Day Sign falling into step with us on a Journey Home together.
Deer’s is recognized as the Bringer of Spiritual Tools. We are given inspiration and guidance on how to navigate a dynamic landscape. Our tool could be an inspiration of Truth – an idea that we can take to heart and can turn to for courage or motivation. The practice of ritual is a Spiritual Tool – lighting candles on the alter with an offering of prayer, or smudging with sage and sweetgrass.
MANIK relies most on the Spiritual Tool of Vigilance. By its keen observation in 4 directions, Deer knows when to move. Deer stands silently in its Power, Knowing the Truth that it is perfectly prepared to take action. This is the most important role we could follow as we are led to a Higher Truth about our Self. With this one tool, we will be present to hear and respond to our Inner Voice.
Our Spiritual Experiences can be subtle and each person experiences their Gifts in their Own Way. Through a small synchronicity we can recognize a Higher Truth. A personal experience that stands out in my memory happened after I lost a Tree. A 100 ft Evergreen that shaded my balcony met its end unexpectedly last Spring, as chainsaws roared they cut through my heart. The worker climbed past my balcony to chop it down one chunk at a time. They didn’t leave a limb for me to salvage, so I collected a handful of chips and sawdust to make a small pillow, and blessed the stump with a gift of cornmeal and blessing of water. It was a terrible loss of a dear friend and home to little creatures. It stuck with me. A week later, running errands the thought “Tree” flashed in my mind as I was reaching in my pocket. At the exact split moment, my fingers touch the needles left behind in my pocket.
It was such a profound moment, yet so subtle. I was thinking Tree in the moment I would be connected to MY Tree. It would have eluded me if I hadn’t been paying attention. It could so easily be passed off as a coincidence. It was a “you had to be there” moment of two things happening instantaneously. It was the first time I’d worn the coat since the day I collected the remains. I Love that Tree and no one could shake my Belief that this connection was a Communion of Consciousness.
I still see how it could appear as just a coincidence. We restore a connection of Spirit as we acknowledge what we Know as our own Truth. Standing in our own Truth we are open and prepared for a deeper experience. I’m convinced we have experiences all the time that are overlooked by distraction or simply passed. Through a Spiritual Gift of Vigilance, we might notice something small that touches us in a big way. This is the real magic of how Life is What we Make of it.
Our time in this Portal is our Sacred Ceremony. In the tradition of the Sun/Moon Dance ceremony, no words are spoken, no eye contact made. It was a time of Total Presence in every moment on a Vision Quest. At the conclusion, we were taught to “hold our power” by not speaking of our experience to anyone for at least 3 months. We can never really share our Deepest Experiences without losing something in translation. If we share too soon, our moment can be defined by something of the world before we have fully defined it for our Self.
We are still moving through the chaos of new creation. Deer is capable to push away negative energies. As a Divine Agent of the Creator, Deer forges our Spiritual Communion. When we are unsure of the way forward, Deer brings the courage to stand still. Deer can help us cast off doubt of a work that is yet unfinished.
Tone 4 helps us to establish our orientation and the “rules of the game.” Manifesting our Highest Aspiration requires us to be Vigilant, Stand Silently in our Truth, and Move with Intention.
To all my relations, may we make our own Sacred Ceremony and design our own ritual to honor the Spiritual Helpers who join our walk. May we find our stability in vigilant stillness. May we honor our feelings and open our hearts so we may know the Divine Purpose for which we were made. May we cast off our fears and doubt to reflect on the Divine Justice that would fulfill the Dream of the Creator.

4 Deer/MANIK (Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi)
Galactic Tone 4: Stability; the cube is most stable of all forms and establishes volume by definition of height, length, depth and breadth; 4 directions establish orientation. The energy of 4 sets the parameters, which establish the freedoms and barriers needed to create a game, work, or relationship.
Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.
Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions. Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer: A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician. Ability to create harmonic resonance.

GREEN DAY: Today is the second of 10 consecutive “Galactic Activation Portals” that will magnify our experiences. This is a thinning of the veil, that remains open for 10 consecutive days. The trecena of Seed/KAN has the power to bring forward the conscious awareness of the inherent power of Spirit through the 5th Element of Ether.
