MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
Tone 4 brings the Intention of Stability. The cube is the most stable of forms, offering the dimensions of height, length, depth and breadth. Tone 4 sets the rules and parameters to establish a sense of Direction and Orientation. Deer/MANIK holds this same energy of stability, said to uphold the pillars of the 4 directions.
The purpose of the Seed/KAN trecena is to present an experience that will transform us through the Truth that we hold the Divine Power of Creation. The 8th uinal holds the Intention of Divine Justice. the Deer/MANIK glyph DEMONSTRATES the Human Hand (another name for MANIK) that grasps the current that completes a circuit of Divine Power. The circle on the hand represents an ever-watchful eye.
Deer/MANIK is the Day Sign of the Mayan Priest, an Agent of Divine Authority. MANIK guides the Intention of Stability as the Day Sign who Stands in the Integrity of Truth. We can stabilize as the “salt of the Earth,” an expression of one who holds the basic characteristics of decency.
Our Power was given for us to act on behalf of a Divine Creator. As an Agent, the choices we make must align with the Divine Will of Spiritual Authority. Our Intentions must reflect the same Justice of Harmony and Equity. Our greatest assignment is to “Love One Another as I have Loved You.”
Standing in the Truth of Divine Justice we hold the Power of All Creation. What we would create would always be a blessing to the whole. Holding this position, our Intentions are one and the same with the Creator who holds ALL Power. Deer/MANIK guides the Way of standing in our Truth that we are One with the Creation.
10-DAY PORTAL: This is day 2 of our 10-day journey through a Spiritual Portal that thins the veil to other dimensions. The Portal magnifies our Senses to raise our Consciousness of our Ethereal Nature. Our Belief is magnified. Our Spiritual Gifts are awakened for Discernment of Direction, so we can Know what is beyond our Human understanding.
4 Deer/MANIK brings the Spiritual Tools to stabilize the climb of the growth cycle of this trecena. Deer is also associated with the number 4 as the 4 directions of our Human experience. The East reflects the experience of Divine Inspiration as the place where the Sun rises. The South represents our experience of Relationship to one another and with the natural world. The West is the direction of the Unknown, Human’s journey through time. And North, the direction of the Old Ones and the collective Wisdom of Experience. 4 also reflects the 4 Elements of the Human Being: Fire, Earth, Water, and Air.
Deer/MANIK’s most used tool is Vigilance. It’s sole means of protection for itself and those it serves is to be watchful in every direction. We are guided to silently and vigilantly guard the landscape of our thoughts. Human is gifted with a Divine Power, that like any power, can be corrupted by a lack of Integrity. Deer emphasizes our need to pay attention to our Inspiration. We should grasp Inspiration when we receive it as an opportunity to look deeper into something that captured our attention. We must also consciously review the influence of our motives to maintain Right Relationships. And, to grow, we must learn all we can from experience.
Our Power of Creation requires us to Believe. We can move beyond Faith to Belief when we KNOW our actions reflect a Divine Intention.
Art was central to the Mayan culture and written language. A picture can convey a thousand words. Before Human invented the camera, God created living images through Mother Earth.
The world offers a demonstration of the instability created by a lack of integrity (in ALL of us). We’re kept off-balance when we question the truth. Relationships are torn apart when we don’t see one another as equal. The whole world suffers when we take more than we give. We walk in fear when we have no Light of Truth. We can’t grow without learning from experience. Our vigilance in each of these directions is necessary to stabilize the Truth of our Limitation. We must see what is out of balance for MANIK to overcome our weakness.
Our Creator knows our Human limitations. Without a sense of Higher Purpose we would only create what is good for our Self. Our Human weakness was balanced by the Divinity of our Spiritual Being. Grasping the Truth of our Divinity, we will respond to a Power Greater than our Self.
Deer/MANIK holds the Power of Harmonic Resonance, the ability to draw lower frequencies into sympathy. We’re inclined to interpret the invisible as “supernatural,” though resonance, a phenomenon of Light, Sound, Matter, and Movement, it is the very Foundation of Stability throughout the Universe. “Universe” reflects the meaning, “One Song.”
Harmonic resonance is an extraordinarily diverse and varied phenomenon seen in countless forms throughout the universe, from gravitational orbital resonances, to electromagnetic oscillations, to acoustical vibrations in solids, liquids, and gases, to laser resonance in light and microwaves. [Boston University, Department of Neuroscience]
We can discern our own power of resonance as a “natural” phenomenon. We already know a body in orbit tends to stay in orbit. A smaller sphere is inclined to join the orbit of a larger sphere. In Music, the oscillation we hear when discordant tones are played together is the sound of the lower frequency attempting to vibrate in sympathy with a higher vibration. Human holds its Highest (and most beautiful) Frequencies of Vibration in a state of Peace and Love. We are naturally drawn to Light and Beauty.Deer is said to clear our negative energies of Fear and Doubt, and empowers our Harmonic Resonance to draw lower frequencies to Love, Beauty, and Harmony.
Deer defends itself in silence. We weren’t intended to make judgements or hold authority over one another, but to lead by example. When we know we are standing in integrity, we don’t have to defend our position. We don’t need worldly validation when we are One with the Creator.
Residing in the West, MANIK can touch our emotions. We are reminded to use the Spiritual Tools we already have. In the face of any personal challenge, we can turn to the altar, lighting candles, burning sage and sweetgrass, and offering our affirmations and prayers of Gratitude to the Creator. We can consider our time in this Portal is our Sacred Ceremony.
As a Divine Agent of the Creator, Deer forges our Spiritual Communion. When we are unsure of the way forward, Deer brings the courage to stand still.
To all my relations, may we be vigilant of our thoughts so we can preserve the safety of our Spiritual Landscape. May we Honor the Creator as our constant companion. May we find our stability by standing in integrity with our own Truth, and rely on the validation of a Divine Creator. May we Love One Another as we are Loved, as the frequency that will attract more Love into our Life. May we cast off the negativity of our fear and doubt, and grasp the “current” of Love. May we look deeper into our Divine Experience for the Miracles within reach of our Human understanding.
in lak’ech, i am another you

21 DAYS of CEREMONY: Day 17
Observing 21 days of Personal Sacred Ceremony is a traditional preparation for the K’iche Maya New Year, 8 B’atz (8 Monkey/CHUEN). The New Year is a celebration of Time, and the day of Initiation for the new Mayan Daykeepers. We are preparing for an initiation into a new way of being. We can employ the Magic of the Jaguar by observing these 21 Days in Gratitude.
I’m grateful that we are never left alone in the struggle of our Human Nature. I’m grateful we can find our own answers through a Gift of Consciousness. I’m grateful that no Human on Earth was meant to hold unjust authority over another… that we were created with the intention of Liberty and Freedom. I’m grateful for beauty and everyday miracles of the Universe.

4 Deer/MANIK (Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi)
Galactic Tone 4: Stability; the cube is most stable of all forms and establishes volume by definition of height, length, depth and breadth; 4 directions establish orientation. The energy of 4 sets the parameters, which establish the freedoms and barriers needed to create a game, work, or relationship.
Deer/MANIK (Hand): Deer are spirit tools. Silence itself is a spiritual experience for Deer. For Deer life is a pilgrimage. Deer are dominant persons who defend the people and will make sacrifices for others. The spirit of Deer upholds the pillars of the four directions. With the power inherent in the number four, Deer pushes away bad influences or negative energies. Skill and quality of work are very important to Deer. They are presented with tools for every task in life and it is with these that they are able to rise above limitations. Deer has a habit of keeping every tool it has ever used. This leads to clutter and indecision, loss and procrastination. When confronted with promises not kept, Deer becomes stubborn, manipulative and evasive.
Cherokee, Deer/Ahwu’sdi: Symbolized by Constellation Galagina, the Stag, known as Taurus, the Bull. It does not include the Pleiades and Hyades clusters which in Cherokee are viewed as separate. To feed, gatherers of food and supplies, they enjoy rituals, ceremonials, feasts, the souls of hospitality, sociability. Freedom versus security issues often inspire leadership and unique solutions. Combined with artistic and inspiring energies in harmony with lunar cycles, they nourish the clans. Totem-Deer: A priest or shaman, a powerful person in general, to overwhelm an individual with one’s personal power, divination; inclined to become a teacher, healer, guru, civic leader, or politician. Ability to create harmonic resonance.
