SPACEWEATHER: Signs from Above, November 2023

November 2023: What Planet is Next to the Moon? (Source: StarWalk News)

In November 2023, the Moon meets Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mars in the sky.

November 9: Moon near Venus

  • Conjunction time: 09:28 GMT (4:28 a.m. EST)
  • Conjunction distance: 1°06′
  • Close approach time: 10:23 GMT (5:23 a.m. EST)
  • Close approach distance: 0°53′

On November 9, the 16%-illuminated Moon will be near Venus (mag -4.4). The planet will rise in the morning, two hours before the Sun. Both objects will be visible to the naked eye and will shine in the constellation Virgo.

On the same day, observers from Europe, western Russia, Greenland, Africa, and Asia will see the Moon passing in front of Venus. The event is called lunar occultation and is only visible in specific locations.

November 13: Moon near Mars

  • Close approach time: 12:18 GMT (6:18 a.m. EST)
  • Close approach distance: 2°21′

On November 13, the New Moon will meet Mars (mag 1.5) in the constellation Libra. The planet will stay close to the Sun and, therefore, be lost in its glare, so it will be impossible to see the close approach of the two celestial objects. Never attempt to look through a telescope for a planet that is close to the Sun: it can cause permanent vision loss.

November 14: Moon near Mercury

  • Conjunction time: 14:04 GMT (9:04 a.m. EST)
  • Conjunction distance: 1°37′

On November 14, the Moon will meet Mercury (mag -0.4) in the constellation Scorpius. The elusive planet will be an evening object and will set an hour after the Sun. The lunar disc will be almost invisible, as the New Moon will occur the day before.

November 20: Moon near Saturn

  • Conjunction time: 14:02 GMT (9:02 a.m. EST)
  • Conjunction distance: 2°48′
  • Close approach time: 15:45 GMT (10:45 a.m. EST)
  • Close approach distance: 2°30′

On November 20, the 52%-illuminated Moon will meet Saturn (mag 0.8) in the constellation Aquarius. Start observations after sunset: by that time, the pair will be highest in the sky. Observe the scene through binoculars or with the naked eye.

November 25: Moon near Jupiter

  • Close approach time: 09:43 GMT (4:43 a.m. EST)
  • Close approach distance: 2°32′
  • Conjunction time: 11:10 GMT (6:10 a.m. EST)
  • Conjunction distance: 2°48′

On November 25, the 95%-illuminated Moon will be near Jupiter (mag -2.8). The bright duo will climb the highest in the sky by 9 p.m. local time. You will easily spot them with the naked eye in the constellation Aries.

Northern & Southern Taurid Meteor Showers in November 2023 (Source: StarWalk News)

The Southern and Northern Taurid meteor showers overlap in November, producing together around 10 meteors per hour. In this article, we will discuss the sibling meteor showers and how to observe them in 2023.

Southern Taurids

  • ZHR: 7
  • Moon illumination: 52%
  • Active: September 20 – November 20
  • Peak: November 4-5
  • Radiant location: constellation Taurus
  • Visible from: everywhere

You can start watching for Southern Taurids as soon as it’s dark. The Southern Taurids have already reached their early peak on October 13, but we’ll get to see their maximum again on the night of November 4-5. This year, the meteor shower’s peak activity aligns with the Last Quarter Moon phase. The Moon will rise late, so you can observe the meteor shower uninterrupted at least until local midnight.

Northern Taurids

  • ZHR: 5
  • Moon illumination: 1%
  • Active: October 20 – December 10
  • Peak: November 11-12
  • Radiant location: constellation Taurus
  • Visible from: everywhere

Saturn Stations Direct

On November 4th (or 3rd, depending on where you are in the world), Saturn stations Direct at 0º Pisces 31′, ending its retrograde phase which began on June 17th. During the retrograde phase of Saturn we were coming to terms with some of our own lessons and challenges.

Saturn is a symbol of the taskmaster, as a Divine Authority that urges us to lean in to the work at hand. Saturn puts an end to procrastination, and always leaves a gift behind – the Divine Justice of a Human Effort.

The Astrology page includes Molly McCord’s astrological forecast of its meaning.

The Last Quarter of the Moon is in the phase where the lunar body is lit at 50 percent on the left side of the Moon. This is a cycle that can be quite empowering, as we are letting go and releasing all of the things that we want to get rid of from the Full Moon. Quitting a bad habit, switching positions at work or changing the direction of your career, ending a toxic situation or relationship, or changing our routines are great things to manifest during this luminary. This is also a time of reflection when we are deciding how we can move forward, rebuild, or dismantle things in our lives. Source: Shondaland

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: NOVEMBER 6, 2023

WHAT JUST HAPPENED? Two CMEs hit Earth over the weekend–one on Saturday, Nov. 4th, another on Sunday, Nov. 5th. The double blow sparked a strong G3-class geomagnetic storm with auroras as far south as Colorado (+40.1N) and Texas (+33.6N). The storm is now subsiding with isolated periods of minor G1-class storming expected through Nov. 6th.

NOT ALL THE LIGHTS WERE AURORAS: At the apex of the storm, bright lights danced across the skies of northern Europe. Not all the lights were auroras. “To our utter amazement we observed a striking phenomenon,” reports Martin McKenna of Swatragh, N. Ireland. “It was STEVE!”

“We were blown away by the intensity of the purple beam,” continues McKenna.”We could see it plainly with the naked eye, swelling and flickering in brilliance with delicate structures like those seen within a feather. My mate Conor likened it to a celestial funnel cloud or tornado changing form in real time.”

STEVE is a recent discovery. It looks like an aurora, but it is not. The soft purple glow is caused by hot (3000°C) rivers of gas flowing through Earth’s magnetosphere at speeds exceeding 6 km/s (13,000 mph). These rivers are energized by strong geomagnetic storms like the one that happened over the weekend.

Wil Cheung observed an even more dramatic apparition of STEVE over Whitley Bay, England:

NOTE: You can also look at dates from a different direction. What is the Destiny Kin number of your day sign’s 3rd tone? You may have overlooked a life-changing day. Use the Kin Calculator offered on the Daykeeper’s Resource Page for a date six years before or after. If you are just starting to count the days and don’t have a journal from the last round, when something major happens in your life you can look to see if there was a major event on that same date before. You can also look for Signs in the “distance of time” – the number of days between one 13 Eagle/MEN (Cherokee, Eagle/UWO’HATLI)Calculator linked on the resources page. Example – 33 days is a symbol of a day that you actualize the Truth from the beginning date.

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom and Tzolk’in calculator preserved on MayanMajix.com

Galactic Tone 11: Resolution; 11 assists every new thing to find its place in the universe in the process of ‘fitting in.’ some modifications must occur. Eleven is the energy of dynamic actions facilitating change, simplification and improvement.

Road/EB: The bearer of time and conductor of destiny; also known as Human; these persons open the road and guide to the future groups, communities and individuals alike. Likable, obedient, dedicated hard workers and organizers, Road persons are fortunate in business and travel. Many become care takers of the poor, sick, or old people, where they may make personal sacrifices. Road is sometimes referred to as the sign of grass, which is the most bountiful of all life forms, but is also the most humble. Road persons are affectionate and emphatic; they are easily hurt but slow to anger. Holding in of negative emotions and unexpressed resentment can lead to illness, a poisoned opinion of others and a false bravado for this sun sign.

A GOOD DAY TO: Do some community service.

Cherokee, Rattlesnake Tooth/KANU’GA: Symbolized by a rainbow, the delicate display of electromagnetic rays of the SUN. Rattlesnake Tooth is the Natal day sign of Medicine, the Shaman, the Priest, the Healer, and the Sorcerer.  Guardian of the Way, Keeper of the Keys of the secret Kingdom.
