Sign of the Comet – Will it Survive?
SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 01/13/2025
A COMET IN BROAD DAYLIGHT: You don’t see this very often. “Here is the comet at 11am in the morning only 5 degrees from the sun,” says Chris Schur, who sends this picture from Payson, Arizona:
This is Comet ATLAS (C/2024 G3), plunging toward the sun for a very close encounter on Monday, Jan. 13th. It is currently ten times closer to the sun than Earth, and deep inside the orbit of Mercury.
“I used a special baffle tube to block sunlight from entering the tube of my 10-inch telescope,” says Schur. “Observing a comet this close to the sun is dangerous, and should only be attempted by experienced observers.”
Lorenzo Comolli photographed the comet at midday from Tradate, Italy:

“I pointed the telescope to the sun using an Astrosolar filter,” says Comolli . “After synching the mount, I shifted to the comet’s coordinates 6° from the sun, removed the solar filter and–WOW–the comet was visible with a small tail right in the field center!”
If Comet ATLAS survives its brush with the sun (prospects look good) it could become a naked-eye object in the evening sky later this week. Southern hemisphere observers are favored, but many northerners will be able to see it, too. Read “Prospects for C/2024 G3 (ATLAS)” by Nick James for observing tips.
LUNAR OCCULTATION OF MARS–TONIGHT:
It’s the must-see backyard astronomy event of 2025 (so far). On Monday night, Jan. 13th, the full Moon will pass directly in front of Mars for a lunar occultation visible across North America. Check this infographic from the Astronomical League for observing times and tips.

FULL WOLF MOON – MOONGIANT.COM
The very first full moon of the year is known in many cultures as the Full Wolf Moon, which is appropriate given the deep, ancient ties between wolves and January’s full moon. For instance, the Gaelic word for January, Faoilleach, comes from the term for wolves, faol-chù, even though wolves haven’t existed in Scotland for centuries. The Saxon word for January is Wulf-monath, or Wolf Month. Meanwhile, the festival of the Japanese wolf god, Ooguchi Magami, is held in January. The Seneca tribe links the wolf so strongly to the moon, they believe that a wolf gave birth to the moon by singing it into the sky. Just why are wolves so strongly associated with January’s full moon?
The most obvious answer is because wolves are much louder and more noticeable in January, which is when breeding season begins. Wolves begin to howl more frequently and aggressively to establish their territory, threatening neighbors and enemies alike to stay far away from their breeding grounds. A small pack of wolves may even try to make themselves seem like a larger pack by howling together. While a lone wolf can sustain a howl for the duration of a single breath, an entire pack may howl in unison for longer than two minutes during breeding season.
Humans may have begun to associate wolves with the moon simpy because they are nocturnal animals that are very active at night. In addition, wolves do raise their heads in the direction of the sky so their howls can travel over far distances to reach their pack mates as they roam. Instead of singing to the moon, they’re actually singing to their friends.
In fact, wolves are so well-known for their tight-knit communities that the Sioux tribe called January’s full moon the Moon Where Wolves Run Together. The wolf is often seen as a symbol of loyalty and protection in many cultures. The Wolf Moon is the perfect time for you to reach out to loved ones and reaffirm your connections, in preparation for deepening your bonds and taking on new challenges together over the upcoming year.
That said, lone wolves are also entirely capable of overcoming hostile conditions on their own with their resourcefulness. According to Celtic mythology, the wolf is infused with lunar power, which refers to its ability to sniff out hidden insights or knowledge, and to detect unexpected sources of danger.

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom preserved on MayanMajix.com
Galactic Tone 3: Action. Three is basic movement and communication, which begins as a vibration. Three energy is very eloquent in all types of self-expression. Communication is how Three establishes a point of agreement between any point “A” and any point “B”. Three persons are rhythmic to the core and are often restless, as motion is their nature. By working closely with the energy of Three, any person becomes more able to predict motions of all kinds.
Transformer/CIMI: Cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Transformer persons achieve goals and emotional wealth. Transformer people can become highly respected business persons. They have the ability to help others through any and all transitions with tranquility due to their spiritual strength and guidance. Communities often benefit from Transformers discipline and organization skills. They strengthen the life of pregnant women and guide them through the transitions of maternity. Establishing contact with the ancestors activates innate psychic abilities, gifts to be used as tools to assist others. Transformers can have the ability to send evil intentions telepathically, this is their undoing. From these acts they lose power, easily fall into a victim role and begin to manipulate with a vengeance.
A GOOD DAY TO: Tie all loose ends.
Cherokee, Twins/ TAKATO’KA: Twins symbolize the Female Sun and Male Moon, whose union keeps the world going round. Cherokee myth has the Morning Star heralding the Sun, Venus, also being the Evening Star as representing the TWINS. The energy brings major changes all throughout life, riding the tsunamis of earthquake and upheaval, making their own waves wherever they go. They undergo powerful transformations, alternating like a flashing neon sign. The challenge is to master Balance while experiencing Chaos leading to re-birth and abundance through infinity.
