GEOMAGNETIC STORMS ARE UNDERWAY: Moderate G2-class geomagnetic storms are underway on March 9th following the arrival of a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) on March 8th. CIRs are transition zones between fast- and slow-moving streams of solar wind. They contain magnetic fields and shock waves akin to those of CMEs. So far, auroras have been photographed in the USA as far south as the Dakotas, New Hampshire, and Colorado. (See more in Spaceweather Realtime Aurora Gallery)

 

THE HOT NIGHT SIDE OF VENUS: Venus is approaching the sun for an inferior conjunction on March 22nd. Between now and then, Venus will be turning its night side toward Earth. You might suppose the night side of Venus would be dark, but astronomers are seeing it. Maximilian-Vlad Teodorescu sends this picture from the Institute of Space Science in Romania:

These images of Venus may remind some readers of a crescent Moon with Earthshine. There’s a big difference, though. The night side of the Moon shines with light reflected from Earth. The night side of Venus, however, produces its own light. It’s glowing because it is incredibly hot.

“I used a 1 μm infrared filter,” explains Teodorescu. “That allows me to photograph Venus’s thermal emission.”

Ten years ago, Japan’s Akatsuki spacecraft (also known as the “Venus Climate Orbiter”) used infrared cameras to map the surface of Venus. According to the data, the average surface temperature is 698 K (800 F), hot enough to melt lead. Here is a global map from Akatsuki:

In this map, colors represent temperature. The white contours trace altitude measured by a radar on the Magellan spacecraft. High places are cooler; low places are warmer. Some of these cool regions (Ishtar terra, Aphrodite terra, Alta Regio, and Beta Regio) also appear in Teodorescu’s image.

Amateur astronomers with infrared filters are encouraged to check out Venus this month. The night side is hot stuff.

NOTE: Sunspot 4012 is positioned in the “danger zone” where solar storms catch the current of wind from the Sun’s rotation, aimed directly toward Earth. The “Parker Effect” is the basis for NOAA forecasts of earth-directed solar storms.

The arrival of current solar winds are expected to arrive on March 14, 2025. A Total Lunar Eclipse occurs March 13-14, 2025, the end of a cycle of matters of feelings and emotions. On March 15, 2025, Mercury stations retrograde in Aries. The first order of business in a new cycle is to return to the past to restore the Truth of our Identity – who we were before, who we are, and who we will always be. Mercury creates the Wind of a Divine Communion, relayed by way of Venus’s hottest nights.

Galactic Tone 6: Flow. Six is responsiveness, and the art of negotiation. It is the movement of volume through space that creates time. This energy in action is like the art of dance or a great athlete in motion. Six facilitates dynamic developments in all aspects of life.

Crocodile/IMIX: Crocodile receives messages of primal creative force; simply the beginning of all things. Crocodiles who follow their hearts are seen as genius. There is no order to the primal messages, so Crocodile persons should direct their energies toward practical and cooperative efforts to bring productive results. Crocodiles have a strong nurturing energy and will work hard to provide security to family and friends. Being extremely territorial, Crocodiles must watch not to be over protective or too dominating. While in these states, Crocodiles are insecure, indecisive and emotionally volatile.

A GOOD DAY TO: Open to new beginnings. 

Cherokee Turtle/ DAK’SI   I’SB: Turtle Island; direction East. The Turtle Constellation Orion, one of three stars in the Cosmic Egg. In Mayan is the Cosmic Hearth. Turtle is the Energy of Creative force at the one-on-one, personal level; dawn, awakening, birth. The beginning of each new era, this star in Orion appears with the rising Sun, heralding the creation of a new World cycle.  Cherokee, IMIX- Totem-Dragon. The energy to understand all things sacred; creation energy, connection for visions, to learn the mysteries of the Universal Knowledge. The dragon carries the source energy of life, revered in ancient cultures for power and wisdom.
