SPACEWEATHER: Night of the Snow Moon, and Super Plasma Bubbles, GPS Disturbance

Soon we will see another Snow moon. Here’s a shot of the Snow moon from last year. Nothing beats the feeling of riding a kicksled a cold night on a frozen lake, all lit up by the full moon. This photo was taken on the lake of Storsjön near Östersund in Sweden.

Effects of Light and Electricity

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 01/31/2026

NIGHT OF THE SNOW MOON: This weekend’s full Moon has a special name: the “Snow Moon,” so-called because February brings the heaviest snowfall to the Northern Hemisphere. The name is more than folklore. Thanks to a special property of snow, the Snow Moon can make nights look dramatically different.

Snow is one of nature’s best reflectors. Fresh, clean snow has an albedo of about 0.80–0.90, meaning it reflects 80–90% of incoming visible light–far more than most natural surfaces. Bare ground reflects ~10-20%, forests ~5-15%, and even desert sand only ~30-40%.

Under a full Moon, this high reflectivity can make snowy landscapes appear 2 to 5 times brighter than snow-free terrain. The effect is strongest with new, fine-grained snow, which scatters light efficiently in all directions. Older, wet, or dirty snow reflects less as crystals melt, clump, or darken.

Only a few exotic substances in the lab rival snow’s reflectivity, including polished salt flats and engineered white coatings. In the real, outdoor world, freshly fallen snow can’t be beat.

Go outside tonight and enjoy the Snow Moonlight. It’s brighter than you think.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac

Names for this month’s Moon have historically had a connection to animals. The Cree traditionally called this the Bald Eagle Moon or Eagle Moon. The Ojibwe Bear Moon and Tlingit Black Bear Moon refer to the time when bear cubs are born. The Dakota also call this the Raccoon Moon; certain Algonquin peoples named it the Groundhog Moon, and the Haida named it Goose Moon.

Another theme of this month’s Moon names is scarcity. The Cherokee names of Month of the Bony Moon and Hungry Moon give evidence to the fact that food was hard to come by at this time.

[There’s good reason the beginning of the Year comes with the warning to postpone major creations until Spring. The weather can change the landscape of our life, even from the comforts of home.]

GPS Disturbance: Minor Storms with Major Effects

A SURPRISING SUPER PLASMA BUBBLE: A new study just published in the journal Space Weather describes a “super plasma bubble” that appeared in Earth’s upper atmosphere during a minor geomagnetic storm. Normally, plasma bubbles stay near the equator. In this case, a surprising surge of electric fields lifted the ionosphere, allowing the bubble to grow and spread. The result was a widespread GPS disturbance in Europe and Africa. Minor storms, the authors concluded, can produce major effects.

Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity

Offering/MULUC is represented by the Moon and an Offering of Atonement. MULUC is a symbol of the Christ Spirit and the completion of Love by Giving Back and Paying Forward. Our Emotions are raised by the tides of the Full Moon. MULUC represents the Healing of our Emotions on a Mass Scale.

Time for Healing is Time for Self Care. Offering/MULUC is a symbol of a Blessing of Water. Honor your feelings as Sacred, and the feelings of others the same. Time is ordered on Tone 9 to step back to see the Big Picture, the Cause and Effect that manifests Creation.

THE TRECENA OF CROCODILE/IMIX: DAWN OF A NEW AWAKENING

It only takes 13 days to see how Faith is always raised to Knowing the Truth of Answered Prayers. You only have to track your thoughts. Record the matters on your mind in a journal to see how your perspective is changed by a Divine Order of Thoughts.

The first trecena of the Tzolk’in is the Legend of the Truth we will realize in the end.

Galactic Tone 9: Patience. The energy of Nine is one of the getting a better perspective of the bigger picture. With the energy of Nine plans or patterns begin to come to completion. Nine requires patience and perseverance that is found in the bigger picture, otherwise there is great suffering from the lack of insight. The completion of cycles of action is all-important to Nine.

Offering/MULUC: Also known as the sign of water. Ceremonially, Maya use water as an offering in baptisms and purifications. These ceremonies are done to bring about a collective strength, adaptability and harmony. In sincere appreciation, Offering people gladly give more than they ask for themselves. Offering persons are dynamic communicators with great intelligence making them excellent employers. Like a shaken vessel of water, Offering people regain equilibrium quickly. Also like a body of water, there may be deep undercurrents of emotion and hidden dangers. Others perceive these as hidden agendas in offering people and so extend them little trust and may even slap blame on them.

A GOOD DAY TO: Offer appreciation for all of creation.

Cherokee, The River/YUN’WI GUNNAHI’TA:  The River is symbolized by The Milky Way, the Gihli’Utsun’stanun’yi “Where the Dog Ran” to gather the souls for Heaven.  The River is the minion for Grandfather Moon.  Long Man is the personification of the River stretching from the mountains to the lowlands, speaking to those who can understand.  People of this sign find “sermons in the stones” and good in everything.  These souls march to a different drummer, driven by inner volcanic forces.  The Moon controls our fluid cycle, to clear and understand emotional issues.  When you take this step to clear the emotional body, then you are ready for transformational energies at the next level.  As humans, our actions are ruled by our emotions, the key is to understand the connection and honor the emotions.
