MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL
Tone 9 encourages our Patience to look at the Big Picture. Monkey/CHUEN is the Master of all Art that Creates the tapestry of our life – weaving all our Experiences together. We learn that Wisdom and Experience go together, with one Truth building upon another. We miss something when we overlook the Higher Purpose of the Whole.
Tone 9 is the number of the Moon, and the aspects of the Divine Feminine for the Discernment of our Emotions. Tone 9 also relates to “cause and effect” in matters of Spirit. Our Spiritual Experiences are balanced with the Physical World in an equal and opposite way. We have to “give up” to win, be vulnerable to find our strength, and die to be reborn. Monkey/CHUEN holds the Beauty of Every Experience in perfect balance.
As a Day Sign that represents the direction of the West, Monkey offers the energy to transform something of our daily walk on the hard road of life. Days guided by the Monkey are seen as the Inspiration for High Magic, as we are shown the Way to Transform our own Reality. The Maya observe Monkey/CHUEN as good days to initiate a new beginning – good days for weddings and inaugurations. 9 Monkey/CHUEN marks the Day of Initiation of the Mayan Priestess.
CHUEN offers a Transformation that presents a New Beginning in the Way we Respond to our own Life Experience. When we see the big picture, we can find our Higher Cause and Life Purpose as our Transformation of Fear into Love. Every new beginning affects a completion. Residing in the 10th Uinal of Manifestation, the Akbal trecena will complete a new Manifestation of Spirit. Dog’s Unconditional Love and Monkey’s Power to Transform Reality are always at the Center of an Intention of a Greater Transformation of Spirit.
Monkey reveals the “cause and effect” of our Choice of Love over Fear is the Beauty of our Life’s Story. The most beautiful features of our tapestry are found in the Contrast between our Dark and Light. Our greatest Joy is the experience of Overcoming our Darkness.
The Monkey is playful and curious, interested in inspecting things up close. This is Way we Transform our own Reality. Looking closely at our Self, we see a Way to Accomplish our Soul’s Desire to be Happy, and to Love and Be Loved. Monkey is said to create the Balance of Reason and Imagination – our two ways of thinking. When our Ego no longer works alone, we are Transformed by seeing the Truth of Possibility. What we once only saw as Fear becomes an Opportunity for Light.
To all my relations, may we be Transformed through an observation of Cause and Effect. As the Weaver of Time, Monkey would have us take a journey through Time. May we inspect the Moments of our Highest Joy with curiosity. May we discern how each was associated to a new beginning and a new way of seeing our Self. The Joy of Life is born from the Death of an Old Way of Being. May we see the Love in the Divine Cause of our own Transformation. Instead of running away from our unpleasant emotions, may we see our Darkness as the Very Cause that will Affect a Transformation to our Joy and Happiness, and that elevates our Consciousness to see the Shining Light of the Creator.

9 Monkey/CHUEN (Cherokee, 9 Raccoon/KVH’LI)
Galactic Tone 9: Patience. The energy of Nine is one of getting a better perspective of the bigger picture. With the energy of Nine, plans or patterns begin to come to completion. Nine requires patience and perseverance that is found in the bigger picture, otherwise there is great suffering from the lack of insight. A completion of cycles of action is all-important to Nine.
Monkey/CHUEN: Monkey is known to the Maya as the Weaver or Weaver of Time. Monkey takes ideas as threads of vines and weaves them into the fabric of our reality. New patterns or inventions are also woven into our lives by Monkey. Amiable, intelligent, generous and a jack of all trades, Monkey’s innocent curiosity leads to artistic expression and constructive solutions. Many Monkeys become highly respected merchants or speakers. They love performing practical jokes and crave attention, so much so that they may over-act or play the fool to get the spotlight. Monkeys have a short attention span and find it difficult to stay with anything long enough to master it.
Cherokee, Raccoon/KVH’LI: Star Symbol: Algol, a star in Perseus. Restless energy yearning for long-lost love. Algol was named DEMON STAR or MISCHIEVOUS ONE by the Ancients because it winks and fades at times. Raccoon is full of friendly mischief, eager to swap kisses for candy. Magnetic leaders, full of humor and gaiety. Favorite food is corn, the mainstay of the Cherokee. Very artistic while being the “masked bandit” who steals your heart.

By providing the original text, I hope to offer a way to see what inspired my thoughts and by including all the aspects – allow for something more to inspire you. Mayan descriptions are those written by Ian Lungold. Cherokee descriptions came from multiple sources. Links to sources and other resources of study are offered on the Daykeeper Resources Page.
