Research Without a Theory

Can you do research without a theory?

Greetings Beloved Kin,

That was a question on my mind, likely influenced by the curiosity of the aspects of thought influenced by the Monkey/CHUEN.

Theory plays a vital role in research. Theory provides explanation, understanding and meaningfulness to research. Theory helps to predict facts and to identify unexplored areas/research areas. Research without theory is less emphatic to establish the relationship among attributes, variables or data.

ICFAI offers one answer in the IUJ Journal of  Management in their article, “Role of Theory In Research And Its Importance.”

It doesn’t make any sense to me.

Barrel of Monkey Business

That perspective only reminds me of the Common thought that you can create a statistic for any outcome you choose. Humans only see what they are looking for.

When my children were little, we played a game called “slug bug” when we were riding in the car. The game is that if you’re the first to see a VW Beetle, you yell “slug bug” and get to punch everyone else in the arm. (We didn’t go that far.) Before we played the game there seemed to be ZERO VW Beetles on the street. When we started looking, we found them everywhere. We were “looking to see.” I should try playing it by myself. It seems like they are no longer anywhere to be seen.

Now it’s commercialized as Punch Buggy. That figures. (And the game is now a choking hazard.) LOL

I tend to follow rabbit-trails without a hard question in mind. I was researching sine waves when I stumbled across this method of discernment. When you leave the question open, you can be led by inspiration to all kinds of questions. Discernment is only as good as the questions you ask to solve a mystery.

A higher question would be about the theory, and why someone is hoping to reach the end they are looking to see. Right? What’s the motive for the end someone is looking to see? From a lifetime career in marketing, we tried to see the most important benefits of a product or service from the customer’s point of view. Those were the Truths we aimed to raise to higher consciousness in the promotion.

Theory without a question means you can leave some questions hanging – like this post. LOL
Discernment is way more fun when you don’t have to prove anything.

love, in lak’ech,

Debra, 9 Eagle/MEN
PS. I will have something to prove when I finish my research on sine waves (ie. that ups and downs are all part of understanding the truth, and that failures and limitations are necessary to learn the highest Truth you can know.)

12 Dog/OC, Cherokee, Wolf/KANA’TI – Day 12 of 13 of the 1 Storm/CAUAC Trecena

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold, 12 Sun/AHAU, from MayanMajix.com

Galactic Tone 12: Understanding. This number’s energy is a gift of great capability of retrospection. It is this ability that allows Twelve to connect disassociated parts into a (new) functioning whole. The energy of Twelve is that which presents a new piece of understood information or accumulated experience to be applied.

Dog/OC: Courageous, loyal and warm-hearted, very alert and valiant, people born of Dog are respected for their sense of justice and their protection. People born of the sun sign Dog are very sensual and know how to enjoy life. Playfulness and a good understanding of the basic human nature lead to prosperity for Dog. Dogs are good team players who love to travel and have a keen sense of their position in society. Dogs are ambitious and will take opportunities when they offer themselves, including infidelities. Dog persons share the nature of coyotes, spies, wolves and lawyers.

A GOOD DAY TO: Enjoy family and friends.

Cherokee, Wolf/KANA’TI: Wolf is symbolized by Sirius (Dog star) and Antares, one or the other always visible but never at the same time.  Wolf is our brother, shares our very roots.  All dogs are domesticated wolves, companionship and guidance.  Wolves are a connecting link between the worlds; ones who inspire loyalty, diplomacy and sense of humor with unlimited potential.  Wolf is the Day Sign of teachers, healers, pathfinders and transformers; sharp as obsidian, gentle as a lamb.

By providing the original text, I hope to offer a way to see what inspired my thoughts and by including all the aspects – allow for something more to inspire you. Mayan descriptions are those written by Ian Lungold. Cherokee descriptions came from multiple sources.
