August 2023 is a special month as it has two Full Moons: the Sturgeon Moon and Blue Moon. Moreover, both of them will be Supermoons.
Supermoons are the effect of the Moon in perigean, the Moon’s closest position to the Earth. As rare as the Blue Moon are 4 Supermoons in a row. The forecast from the Old Farmer’s Almanac notes that August 1, 2023 is the 2nd in the series. Both of the Supermoons in August are in signs that relate to the Element of Water. The Supermoon in Aquarius is positioned in the sign of the Water Bearer, the second Supermoon, August 30, 2023 is in Pisces, symbolized by the Fish.

Pisces Symbol
The Pisces symbol is said to represent two fish swimming in opposite directions tied together by a rope. (Google: Dictionary.com)
The Elders called Water Living Light. Full Moons draw the Highest Tides. The Lion’s Gate portal is a blessing of Light to the Living Water within. Sirius positions as the Brightest Star, and the story of the Lion’s Gate defines Sirius as the way station that projects the Light of the Central Sun in the Milky Way.

Star Walk News: August 2023: What Planet is Next to the Moon? In August 2023, the Moon meets Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, and Mars in the sky.
Another Light that shines on the Waters of the August 1st Supermoon is Saturn. Saturn’s name comes from the Roman god of agriculture, Cronus, revered as the god of Time. Saturn is known as the taskmaster in Astrology. When Saturn is in our Sign, it’s said to guide us to apply Time for its highest purpose. Procrastination doesn’t have a chance under Saturn’s meaning for Time. We’re forced by circumstances to take care of business.
The brightest Light is the Moon, reflecting the Sun, positioned in Leo in July and August, in synchronicity with the Lion’s Gate 08/08.
Supermoons have the potential to cause higher-than-usual tides. High tides during the full or new moon are called spring tides. High tides during a full or new moon at perigee are called perigean spring tides, or, sometimes, king tides. See EarthSky.org Article
The Water table in Earth rises with the tides, the reason for planting by the phases of the New and Full Moons. We are made of Earth, so are the tides rising within, raising the Element of Water to receive the Light of the Universe. The power of a Sign or Symbol is magnified by repetition. All signs point to a Blessing to Living Water. Our every search through space is for the Element of Water that is the Sign of Life.
My thanks and appreciation to our Kin, Pauline, for sharing the following video that covers both the scientific and esoteric research of Water as an Element that holds the Consciousness of our Spirit. We are connected to all things through the Air and the Vapor of Water. The Element of Water is among the stickiest substances. Through the Sacred Breath we draw the Light and the Water of Life. We are One in every breath.
I bought a watermelon today, the first in a few years with the intention to stock it up in the refrigerator for its nutritional value. That was before I watched the video. Watermelon was the first water that was offered to us after the 4-day food/water fast of the Sun Moon Dance. May we LOVE Water as a Divine Blessing that we can’t live without. May we drink it in with Consciousness, bath in it as the Elders taught us to do – receiving the blessing as “living Light.” I’ve filled vessels with it on every altar. We can offer water to the living things outside, much needed in this heat wave. We can also set a vessel of water outside to receive the Light of the Supermoon and all the Stars in the Universe.
Love is the Divine Harvest we are praying for to pass through the Lion’s Gate, leaving all our doubts and fears behind. A Creator of Divine Consciousness holds the means and the ways to spread all the Light in the world around through the Promise of Divine Agency. In the “core days” of the Tzolk’in round, we are immersed in Water as the chrysalis of the Butterfly. The Intention is to create a Divine Seed and a Divine Reality in the world for tomorrow. We are born through water. May we receive the Blessing and remember the Offering to Give Back and Pay Forward that is the meaning and purpose of the “Christ Spirit” that lives within.

The thoughts and facts of the matter couldn’t be more in sync with This Time. My thoughts were immediately drawn to the teachings of the Indigenous Elders, who have shared a Divine Inheritance of wisdom on the Light of Living Water.

Catch the Full Sturgeon Supermoon and The Blue Supermoon!
August 1: Full Sturgeon Moon
August’s first full Moon will appear on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 1, reaching peak illumination at 2:32 P.M. Eastern Time. That evening, look toward the southeast after sunset to catch a glimpse of the Sturgeon Moon rising.
You may have heard that there are four supermoons in a row this year; the August 1 supermoon is the second supermoon of this unusual sequence. “Supermoon” is a catchy term for what astronomers call “a perigean full Moon” which is when the full Moon happens at (or very near) the exact time when the Moon is closest to us in its orbit.
A supermoon exceeds the disk size of an average-sized Moon by up to 8% and the brightness of an average-sized full Moon by some 16%. You may not perceive the difference in size, but a supermoon will appear brighter in the sky.
August 30: Blue Moon
Later in the month, a second full Moon, a Blue Moon will make an appearance. The term Blue Moon is most commonly used when we have two full Moons in a single month. On Wednesday, August 30, the Full Moon will peak at 9:36 P.M.
August 30-31 supermoon will be the closest, biggest, and brightest full supermoon of 2023. It’s exceptionally close in Moon miles from Earth (222,043 miles). The next time we’ll have a closer full supermoon is November 5, 2025, when the moon lies 221,817 miles from Earth.

The Sturgeon Moon
August’s full Moon was traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer.
What Is a Sturgeon?
These prehistoric-looking fish have been traced back to around 136 million years ago and many people call them “living fossils.”

The word “sturgeon” means “the stirrer,” which is what this giant fish does when it is looking for food; it stirs up the mud and silt on river and lake bottoms. Notice the pointed snout and whisker-like tactile organs near the mouth. Credit: Tennessee Aquarium.
- Females require around 20 years to start reproducing, and they can only reproduce every 4 years. However, they can live up to 150 years!
- Today, there are about 29 species worldwide, including the lake sturgeon found in the Great Lakes. They have evolved in size from the size of a bass to monster sturgeon as big as a Volkswagen.
- The lake sturgeon is quite rare today, due to intense overfishing in the 19th century, pollution, and damage to their habitat.
Alternative August Moon Names

NOTE: August 1, 2023 is 5 Eagle/MEN. Tone 5 raises the Intention of Empowerment, and Eagle Men raises our Highest Hopes and Aspirations with the Vision to See the Future.
Corn Moon (Algonquin, Ojibwe), Harvest Moon (Dakota), and Ricing Moon (Anishinaabe) signify that this is the time to gather maturing crops. Along the same vein, the Assiniboine people named this period Black Cherries Moon, referring to when chokecherries become ripe.
The Tlingit people of the Pacific Northwest traditionally called this time of the season the Mountain Shadows Moon.

4 Jaguar/IX (Cherokee, Panther/SAHO’NI) – Day 4 of 13, the 1 Monkey/CHUEN journey the Dawn of a New Creation
CORE DAYS: The 7th Uinal in the Center of the Tzolk’in is compared to our own axis mundi, the center of our own universe where we are always perfectly positioned at the center of the 4 directions. The axis is the “line around which any body rotates.” Like a spinning gyroscope, we find our balance in a relationship shared between the Above and the Below. Holding a focus within the center of our Self, we reside in the place of perfect balance.
