SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: March 29, 2024
X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE AND CME (UPDATED): Yesterday, giant sunspot AR3615 produced another X1-class solar flare. The explosion on March 28th at 2053 UT ionized the top of Earth’s atmosphere and caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean: map. NOAA forecasters have modeled the trajectory of a CME that emerged from the blast site, and determined that it will not hit Earth. No geomagnetic storms will result from this event.
SIZZLING SUNSPOT: Sunspot AR3615 is literally sizzling. Earlier today, David Wilson of Inverness, Scotland, photographed the active region spitting hot plasma as it approaches the sun’s western limb.
“I don’t often photograph the solar surface, but this was too good to miss,” says Wilson. “It reminds me of the current Icelandic volcano.”
The sunspot’s location near the edge of the solar disk gives photographers a good look at its sizzling magnetic canopy. Up-and-down motions captured in Wilson’s video are part of the turmoil that gives rise to strong solar flares. Just yesterday, AR3615 unleashed two strong M-class flares and an X-flare.
Any eruptions this weekend could have a strong effect on Earth. Sunspots located near the sun’s western limb are magnetically connected to our planet via the Parker Spiral. If AR3615 erupts while it is transiting this “danger zone,” energetic protons and electrons may be funneled back toward Earth for a solar radiation storm. Stay tuned!

Lunar optics? Taken by Travis Stokes on March 28, 2024 @ Helmer, Michigan (Spaceweather.com Realtime Image Gallery)
“They were so bright I was able to photograph them using my iPhone at about 1:30 a.m.,” says Stokes.
These are ice halos. Tiny crystals floating in cirrus clouds above Stoke’s home in the town of Helmer caught the rays of the Moon and bent them into a variety of forms. Here are some of their names:

A few of these are common–e,g, the 22 degree halo and moondogs. Less common are the circumzenithal arc, upper tangent arc, parhelic circle and the hint of a Parry arc. It was a rare display indeed!

12 Wisdom/CIB (Cherokee, Owl U’GUKU’) – Day 12 of 13 in the Serpent CHICCHAN’s cycle of “light.”
Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom preserved on MayanMajix.com
Galactic Tone 12: Understanding. This number’s energy is a gift of great capability of retrospection. It is this ability that allows Twelve to connect disassociated parts into a (new) functioning whole. The energy of Twelve is that which presents a new piece of understood information or accumulated experience to be applied.
Wisdom/CIB: The old ones. Wisdom of the ancients. Wisdom persons are aligned with the ancient memories that wait in the stone of temples and sacred sites all over the world. Wisdom people grow luck like a crop using a balance of prudence and tenacity. The tremendous inner strength of this sign enables silent introspection to discover areas of oneself that contain wisdom more valuable than any trove of archaeological treasure. Wisdom persons are valiant defenders of family and community. They may become hardened to life and sentiment turned cold. In these cases, they need much forgiveness for their uncaring errors. Periodically connecting with nature and or visiting sacred sites will bring great stability to wisdom persons.
A GOOD DAY TO: Sit on a rock.
Cherokee, Owl U’GUKU’ O’JJ: Symbol is the Owl is Arcturus, the brightest Star in the Constellation Bootes. The Cherokee Bear constellation (Ursa Major) includes the Big Dipper plus four stars in Bootes. Owl is a hunter, who stands for the wisdom and ability of all great hunters, the cunning of a fox, the tenacity of a bulldog and strength of a bear. Energy for deep thinkers, strong-willed, rigid convictions, bold and authoritative. Owl is the Mystic Ferryman who guides Earthlings on the return path to the stars holding the torch aloft.
