The Sun

SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 05/11/2025

THE MYSTERIOUS WILSON EFFECT: Yesterday, Dave Wilson of Inverness, Scotland, pointed his telescope at the sun and captured a phenomenon rarely seen by amateur astronomers. It’s called the “Wilson effect:”

“This video shows giant sunspot 4079 approaching the western limb,” says Wilson. “I think it shows the Wilson effect, which states that sunspots are actually depressions in the solar surface.”

Scottish astronomer Alexander Wilson discovered the effect in 1769 during Solar Cycle 2. In daily observations, he noticed that sunspots approaching the sun’s limb were foreshortened and sometimes appeared to be sunken in the middle. (The same observations proved that sunspots were features on the solar surface, not, say, dark satellites orbiting just above the sun.)

The Wilson effect has been debated for more than 250 years. Is it real? Some researchers in the 1950s argued that it was a purely psychological effect. Others retorted that so many observers couldn’t be crazy; there was too much photographic evidence.

Although the cause of the Wilson effect is still debated, most modern researchers take it at face value: Sunspots are shallow depressions. One idea holds that high pressure systems trapped in the magnetic canopies of sunspots press down on the underlying core, creating a dark bowl.

ONE YEAR AGO–AN HISTORIC GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Do you remember where you were one year ago today? Wherever it was, there were probably auroras overhead. On May 10-11, 2024, an extreme geomagnetic storm sparked auroras over all seven continents and almost every country on Earth. Colorful lights were sighted in Africa, the South Pacific, Hawaii, Florida, Mexico, Puerto Rico and so many other places. The Full Flower Moon

STARWALK ASTRONOMICAL NEWS: The Full Flower Moon

The Moon will reach its full phase on May 12, 2025, at 16:56 GMT (12:56 p.m. EDT). At that moment, our natural satellite will be positioned in the constellation Libra. By the way, you don’t have to strictly follow the timing to enjoy the beauty of our natural satellite: to the naked eye, the Moon will appear round and bright the day before and after reaching the full phase.

(The Full Moon occurs on May 13, 2025 in some Times and Places. Visit MoonGiant.com for International Dates and Times, listed at the bottom of the page. The MoonGiant page also includes the Moon phases for May 2025)

May is most notable for being the turning point in the year where temperatures rise and a vast variety of flowers come into full bloom, letting the world break out into a riot of color. As such, May’s full moon has come to be known as the Full Flower Moon. The Anishnaabe tribe also called it the Blossom Moon. In Northern America, you can expect to see flowers such as bluebells, sundrops, violets, and so on, as well as lush greenery to go with the blossoms. The Apache and Lakota peoples named May’s full moon the Green Leaves Moon, while the Mohawk tribe called it the Big Leaf Moon. But there is one specific plant that’s very important during the May season – and it is, in fact, not a flower.

This plant is corn, an important staple food for Northern American peoples. According to the Algonquin tribes, May’s full moon is the Corn Planting Moon. For Native American tribes, this is the perfect time for them to start preparing the fields for farming and sowing the seeds saved up from last year.

The Wesak Moon Celebration

The Wesak tradition is the celebration of the Birth and Death of the Buddha, observed by many faiths and traditions as the symbol of God’s Light of Wisdom and Truth poured out from Above. It’s referred to as the “High Watermark of Spirit.” The Sacred Ceremony is carried out in the valley of the Himalayas.

The Wesak Valley ritual, a legendary tradition, is a spiritual event that takes place annually near the time of the full moon in May. It involves a gathering of Masters and disciples who form symbolic formations, often involving a five-pointed star or a triangle, to the sound of chanting and esoterical phrases, with the World Teacher of Love at the apex. This ritual is believed to stimulate the souls of those present, creating a sense of spiritual awakening and a united group ready for spiritual demand, readiness, and expectancy. (Google: Wesak Valley Ritual)

Time leading up to the celebration is spent studying the Word of the 8-fold path. People of other faiths meditate on the teachings of Jesus Christ. The ritual is symbolic of God’s Light restored on Earth. The approximately 8-9 minute period when the Moonlight spills into the valley are honored as the Divine DownPouring of Energies & Blessings to water everywhere. The traditional offering is flowers offered to a body of living/moving water. Some place water outside to be consecrated by the Light as Holy Water. We are living bodies of water, we can receive the Blessing of Light. And, so can our offerings be given to another “living body” in honor of the whole. (We could make an offering to the birds, animals, or even our pets as a blessing to the spirits of the animal kingdom. We can present an offering to another Human Being for all of Humanity.) The Wesak is a time to bless the Whole Creation. Millions around the world join in the prayer of the Great Invocation (included at the bottom of this page).

The Stars Tonight, May 11, 2025

StarWalk Astronomical News

What is the dot next to the Moon tonight?
From May 5 to 11, 2025, the Moon will visit the constellations Leo, Virgo, and Libra. This week, the brightest dot near the Moon will be Spica (mag 0.9) from Virgo. The Moon will be perfectly visible the whole week as it reached its First Quarter phase on May 4.

Virgo is a symbol of abundance and divine justice as the Harvest – as we sow, so shall we reap in the 9th month of Earth’s year. Saturn is a symbol of the God’s Law and Divine Orders for living in Right Relationship.

The next planetary approach to the Moon is Saturn, May 22, 2025.

The Greatest Commandment

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

The Noble 8-Fold Path

The Great Invocation:

“From the point of Light within the mind of God,
let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God,
let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Jesus Christ (“World Teacher”*) return to Earth.
From the Centre where the Will of God is known,
let purpose guide the little wills of men –
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the Centre which we call the race of men,
let the Plan of Love and Light workout,
and may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.”

*The Octave of Easter is a Time to honor the World Teacher, Jesus Christ, who was the Living God sent to restore the Hearts and Souls of Humanity, in this Year of Jubilee, God’s favor overflows. We can replace “World Teacher” as “May Christ return to Earth.” God claims all children who love and honor the One God, the Lord of all Creation.

Many religions believe in a “World Teacher”, knowing him under such names as the Christ, the Lord Maitreya, the Imam Mahdi, the Kalki Avatar and the Bodhisattva. These terms are sometimes used in versions of the Great Invocation for people of specific faiths. May we honor the faith of our neighbors. In 2025, Pope Francis proclaimed that every path of faith leads to the One God. May we give thanks to the Master Teachers who abide by God’s Intention to gather all souls to heaven. The New Motto of Pope Leo XIV is “In Illo uno unum,” which means “In the One, we are one.”

4 Seed/KAN (Cherokee, Dragon/UKTE’NA) – Day 4 of 13, 1 Crocodile/IMIX trecena

Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom and Tzolk’in calculator preserved on MayanMajix.com

Galactic Tone 4: Stability; the cube is most stable of all forms and establishes volume by definition of height, length, depth and breadth; 4 directions establish orientation. The energy of 4 sets the parameters, which establish the freedoms and barriers needed to create a game, work, or relationship.

Seed/KAN: Family, sexual activity and the magic of germination are the characteristics of this sun sign. Natural net workers, Seed people strive to free themselves and others from debt or oppressive patterns of the past. Abundance is gathered by Seeds as if with a cast net. Seed persons are public defenders who work toward uniting community by discovering hidden traps and secret influences of others. To generate true abundance, Seed must learn to appreciate all gifts and lessons received and conduct profound investigations into its self. In the absence of gratefulness and the courage to face oneself, Seed finds itself in less than less fertile environments.

A GOOD DAY TO: Plant, make new contacts, reconnect with others.

Cherokee, Dragon/UKTE’NA: Fertility and pro-creation from generation to generation. The word dragon means ”eye, to look at, to see clearly”.  In China ley lines are called “dragon lines”; orgone energy, pyramid power, or magnetic force. Pyramids and kivas are collector portals for this energy, known as vortexes. Dragon energy beats a path everywhere, stirring things up with a big stick in tune with the beat of the drum, heartbeat of the Earth.
