INTERSTELLAR COMET IMAGED DURING LUNAR ECLIPSE: Would you believe, the best time to photograph an interstellar comet is during a total lunar eclipse? Amateur astronomers Michael Jäger and Gerald Rhemann decided to try it on Sept. 7th, when the full Moon passed through Earth’s shadow. With the help of that extra darkness, they teased out the subtle colors of 3I/ATLAS. It’s green.

In 2024 the autumn equinox occurs on 22 September at 12:44pm (13:44 UTC), marking the day when we experience roughly the same amount of daytime and nighttime.
The equinox arrives at the same moment worldwide. The center of the Sun crosses the celestial equator, marking the Northern Hemisphere’s autumn equinox, and the vernal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere.
