Full Snow Moon
The Full Moon occurs Wednesday, February 12, 2025, 7:53 AM CST (1:53 PM UTC); and on Thursday, February 13, 2025, 12:53 AM AEDT in Australia (reported by MoonGiant.com for Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne). (MoonGiant.com offers dates and times of the Full Snow Moon for international locations.)
As the snowiest month in the United States, February’s full moon is commonly known as the Full Snow Moon in Native American cultures. These ancient tribes named this moon after the way trees cracked in the cold, or how people had to sit shoulder to shoulder around the fire for warmth. Even the Celts called it the Moon of Ice. As expected of the coldest month in the year, the Full Snow Moon is also known by more sinister names, such as the Bone Moon.
The Cherokee tribe called February’s full moon the Bone Moon because by this point, the tribe’s winter food supplies had usually dwindled to the point where people had to gnaw on bones and cook bone marrow soup in order to survive. For the same reason, the Kalapuya tribe called this moon the Out of Food Moon. Appropriately, it’s also known as the Hunger Moon and the Little Famine Moon.
Perhaps due to this month’s association with death, the Cherokee tribe would commune with their dead ancestors during the Bone Moon. A didanawiskawi, or a medicine person, would host a medicine dance for the community. Fasting and rituals for the dead were also common practices.
However, not all cultures associate February’s full moon with extreme cold and death. The Hopi tribe calls it the Moon of Purification and Renewal, which is very fitting because the Full Snow Moon is usually the very first full moon of the year according to the lunar calendar. Cultures that follow the lunar calendar, especially East Asian cultures, tend to associate the Full Snow Moon with new beginnings for this very reason. The ancient Chinese, for example, called it the Budding Moon. (The article is continued on MoonGiant.com)

The second Full Moon of 2025, the Snow Moon, will occur on Wednesday, February 12. The Moon will be in the constellation Leo, near its brightest star, Regulus.
February Full Moon in Leo
In general, the Full Moon in February can be in one of three constellations: the zodiacal constellations Leo and Cancer, and the non-zodiacal small constellation Sextans, which is right next to Leo.
In most years, such as 2025, the Full Moon in February is in the constellation Leo. The next time it will be in Cancer is in 2026; in Sextans — in 2029.
Sometimes, there isn’t a Full Moon in February at all. This happens once every 19 years: the last time was in 2018, and the next time will be in 2037. Sometimes people call it a “Black Moon”, but it isn’t the only meaning this term has. Learn what it really means in our dedicated article.

On February 12, at 23:21 GMT 6:21 p.m. ET), the Full Moon will pass 2°18′ away from Regulus (mag 1.4), the brightest star in the constellation Leo. Regulus is bright enough to be visible even at Full Moon, provided the sky is free of light pollution.
Mayan Time and Tradition
The Full Moon, February 12, 2025, falls in 7 Wisdom/CIB, a symbol of Human’s Highest State of Consciousness. CIB is a Time to Honor the “Old Ones” and the Wisdom of all time. On the Full Snow Moon families huddled shoulder to shoulder to survive the cold. It was Time to Remember those who were lots. By Mayan tradition, to Remember is to offer a living sanctuary for the Wisdom of the Ancestors to “live within.” The veil is thin to our Grandmothers and Grandfathers and time to remember the sacrifices they made for those would follow.

NOTE: Use the Kin Calculator offered on the Daykeeper’s Resource Page for a Mayan date six years before or after. If you are just starting to count the days and don’t have a journal from the last round, calculate the Mayan date of major events that you do remember. You can also look for Signs in the “duration of time.” Example – 33 days is a symbol of a day that you actualize the Truth from the beginning date. You can calculate the meaning of the day 33 after you realized a Truth to consider the lesson that was turned to Divine Wisdom. Life is a game of higher dimensions.
6 Eagle/MEN (Cherokee, Eagle/UWO’HATLI) – Day 6 of 13 of the 1 Dog/OC trecena
Descriptions by Ian Xel Lungold (12 Sun/AHAU), wisdom and FREE Tzolk’in Calculator preserved on MayanMajix.com
Galactic Tone 6: Six is responsiveness and the art of negotiation. It is the movement of volume through space that creates time. This energy in action is like the art of dance or a great athlete in motion. Six facilitates dynamic developments in all aspects of life.
Eagle/MEN: Intermediary between Heaven and Earth. Due to the Eagles superior point of view and keen intelligence, they achieve material abundance and good fortune. A messenger gifted with patience and a deep sense of value, Eagle brings hope and trust on the wings of Spirit. Eagle persons are very detail oriented and technically inclined. Compassionate service to others sustains prosperity for Eagle personas as the flapping of wings would sustain their bird brothers. If Eagle becomes viciously competitive or possessive, greed and jealousy cause a fall from the heights. Eagles, being blessed with freedom of movement, should be aware of escapism. Eagles may be tempted to just fly away from troubles by using indulgences.
A GOOD DAY TO: Rise to a Higher Perspective
Cherokee, Eagle/UWO’HATLI: Eagle’s symbol is Mars the Spirit Warrior. He is a minion of Grandfather Moon. Eagles were the warrior society, the braves the protectors of the nation. Women were included. There was no discrimination which is reflected in the language: third person singular is divided into animate, human and animate, not human instead of he and she. The energy of high hopes and anticipations, dreams and visions, cosmic consciousness and commitment. On earth, a provider of excellence, leader, husbandry, care-taking of others, financial security and inheritance.
