Sunspot Complex 4294-4296 Remains Quiet
SPACEWEATHER.COM NEWS: 12/04/2025
STRONG SOLAR FLARE AND CME: New sunspot 4300 erupted today (Dec.4th @ 0250 UTC), producing a strong M6-class solar flare. At the same time, the US Air Force detected a Type II solar radio burst, which means a CME is probably emerging from the blast site. Meanwhile, giant sunspot complex 4294-4296 remains ominously quiet.

Full Cold Moon Supermoon, Dec 4-5, 2025

Local Date and Time for December 2025 Full Moon in major cities around the world:

December full moon is commonly known in the Northern Hemisphere as the Full Long Nights Moon. It takes its name from the winter solstice, which has the longest night in the year. The Full Long Nights Moon cuts a soaring trajectory through the wintery skies, in direct opposition to the low-hanging sun. According to Pagan tradition, on years that the Full Moon falls before the winter solstice, it is referred to as the Mourning Moon. This was a time of cleansing by stopping bad habits to make one stronger to service the cold winter ahead. The Algonquins called this full moon the Cold Moon, in reference to the cold light it casts upon long winter nights. Strangely enough, in certain other cultures, December’s full moon can actually be associated with warmth.
To the Deborean Clan, the Cold Moon is associated with staying in your cozy home beside a crackling fireplace, surrounded not just by physical warmth, but also the warmth of family and friends. For those inclined towards solitude, the Full Long Nights Moon provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy your cozy home in peace and quiet. Consider taking lots of restful naps under warm, fluffy comforters, or allowing yourself to lounge in bed in the mornings instead of rising immediately to work. Appropriately, the Native American Zuni tribe called December’s full moon the “Moon Where the Sun Comes Home to Rest”. This full moon is a great time for you to take a long overdue break and recharge, so that you may shine all the brighter when it comes time for you to rise again.

When to See December’s Full Moon
The Full Cold Moon will be 100% illuminated on December 4 at 6:14 P.M. EST. For the most dramatic view, watch just after moonrise, when the Moon appears larger near the horizon—a phenomenon called the “Moon illusion.” Clear skies and minimal light pollution will make it easier to appreciate the Moon’s brightness and detail. Check your local times with our Moon Rise Calculator.
The Moon Illusion: Why Does the Moon Look So Big Tonight?
An optical illusion created by scales of perception.
When the Moon is high overhead, it is dwarfed by the vast hemisphere of the heavens and appears to our eyes as a small disk in the sky.
By contrast, when the Moon is low, it is viewed in relation to earthly objects, such as chimneys or trees, whose size and shape provide scale. Your brain compares the size of the Moon to the trees, buildings, or other reference points, and suddenly, the Moon looks massive!

The December full Moon is a supermoon, the third in a series of three consecutive supermoons at the end of 2025 (October, November, December). A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, called perigee.
Because it’s a supermoon, it may appear slightly larger and brighter than a typical full Moon—up to 8% larger in diameter and 16% brighter. For most casual observers, the difference is subtle, but it’s more noticeable if compared to a micromoon, when the Moon is at its farthest point from Earth.
Being near perigee and full, this Moon can also produce slightly higher tides, known as perigean spring tides or king tides, especially along coastlines, though the effect is modest.
This supermoon also comes just before the peak of the Geminid meteor shower (December 13–14), which means exceptionally dark skies for a dazzling display of shooting stars.
The Full Cold Moon
The Moon names we use in The Old Farmer’s Almanac come from centuries of Native American, colonial, and European traditions. December’s Full Moon is most commonly called the Cold Moon (Mohawk), reflecting the frigid season. It is also known as the Long Night Moon (Mohican) because it rises during the longest nights of the year, near the winter solstice, and remains above the horizon for an extended period.
Other traditional names that highlight the cold and snow include:
Drift Clearing Moon (Cree)
Frost Exploding Trees Moon (Cree)
Moon of the Popping Trees (Oglala)
Hoar Frost Moon (Cree)
Snow Moon (Haida, Cherokee)
Winter Maker Moon (Western Abenaki)
Moon When the Deer Shed Their Antlers (Dakota)
Little Spirit Moon (Anishinaabe)
In Europe, ancient pagans called it the “Moon Before Yule” in honor of the Yuletide festival celebrating the return of the sun.
The Full Cold Moon was a time to remember the Ancestors and relationships that didn’t survive the last winter. To remember is to honor the wisdom that came before. It’s time to reserve energy for the Cold Days ahead. The Elders call it the Dreamtime of Winter, when we consider the last harvest and the new seeds of Intention we will plant in Spring. December looks ahead to the Dream of the next Season of Harvest. It’s time to consider long-range plans for the future, and the means and the ways for a another time to come.
The Full Moon on December 4, 2025, is in the sign of Gemini and is also a Supermoon. Astrologically, this event is considered a powerful time for communication, releasing outdated ideas, and bringing to a culmination goals related to your voice or mindset. It is seen as a moment for spiritual awakening, emotional healing, and clarifying your path as the year ends.
Every Full Moon is a period of intensity when our emotions and energy are at their peak. So, when a full moon occurs in the Air sign Gemini, it’s going to heighten its signature traits. The Full Cold Moon will have a deep influence on all of our mental and emotional energy; sharpening logical thinking and reducing the softer feelings. Water signs Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces may feel more intensely an influence in the emotional realm of memory, intuition, healing, dreams and the unconscious.
The Water signs of the zodiac are ruled by emotion, intuition, and depth. They feel life intensely and absorb the energy around them like emotional sponges. These signs represent the emotional realm of memory, intuition, healing, dreams, and the unconscious. You may find yourself analyzing memories, noticing patterns, and understanding the “why” behind your moods. Still, adjusting to Gemini’s airy speed won’t be instant. You’ll crave retreat, silence, or extra time alone as you mentally sort through what’s been weighing on your heart. Situations that once confused you now look clearer under the moon’s logical light. But adapting won’t be seamless. Gemini’s restless mental energy may feel like emotional static at first, pushing you to tidy your space, reorganize relationships, and articulate needs you usually keep unspoken. Let your intuition speak, but let your mind help you translate it into practical action.
The Full Moon in Gemini will make all the 12 signs more practical and strategic, but only to expedite understanding and relationship healing. So, if you initially feel you are in strange water due to its influence, just go with the flow, but don’t lose touch with your softer, emotional side. Mayan Calendar Time and Synchronicity
The cycle of Offering/MULUC represents the Christ Spirit and the Intention of the Sacred Exchange – to Give Back and Pay Forward the offering of Love. MULUC is a symbol of the Moon, our Emotions, and Water everywhere. We can expect our emotions to be intensified by the Highest Tides. So will our emotions be influenced by the turning of the tides.
Whenever we are ruled by our emotions, the wise thing to do is to take extra time to “think about it” so we can see through the illusion by seeing the Truth through more than one perspective. The Gemini Twins see from the perspectives of a Mortal Life, and an Eternal Life view.
We might expect Emotional Storms on Earth as it is in Heaven. The Maximum Light of the Sun is reflected on the Supermoon, magnifying the Light to Feel the Truth and to See Clearly from the Son’s point of view.

Galactic Tone 3: Action. Three is basic movement and communication, which begins as a vibration. Three energy is very eloquent in all types of self-expression. Communication is how Three establishes a point of agreement between any point “A” and any point “B”. Three persons are rhythmic to the core and are often restless, as motion is their nature. By working closely with the energy of Three, any person becomes more able to predict motions of all kinds.
Monkey/CHUEN: Monkey is known to the Maya as the Weaver or Weaver of Time. Monkey takes ideas as threads of vines and weaves them into the fabric of our reality. New patterns or inventions are also woven into our lives by Monkey. Amiable, intelligent, generous and a jack of all trades, Monkey’s innocent curiosity leads to artistic expression and constructive solutions. Many Monkeys become highly respected merchants or speakers. They love performing practical jokes and crave attention, so much so that they may over-act or play the fool to get the spotlight. Monkeys have a short attention span and find it difficult to stay with anything long enough to master it.
A GOOD DAY TO: Begin anything new in your life.
Cherokee, Raccoon/KVH’LI: Racoon’s star symbol is Algol, a star in Perseus. Restless energy yearning for long-lost love. Algol was named DEMON STAR or MISCHIEVOUS ONE by the Ancients because it winks and fades at times. Raccoons are full of friendly mischief, eager to swap kisses for candy. Magnetic leaders, full of humor and gaiety. Favorite food is corn, the mainstay of the Cherokee. Very artistic while being the “masked bandit” who steals your heart. Totem Monkey: The energy of humor, the artisan and craftsmen of the Universal energy. Helps us to lighten up in all situations, was the glyph of the 4th world creation in conjunction with OC so that we would have humor in all of our endeavors. The humor, when added to a serious situation will allow you to have a less destructive pattern of resolution. This is the “Cosmic joke” energy to help us transcend the duality. A life path of comedian, actor, artist, artisan writer, satirist, any path is enhanced with this humor in conjunction with the creative energies.
