Happy Maya New Year, WAXAJQIB B’AATZ (8 B’atz)
MAYAN CALENDAR DAYKEEPER’S JOURNAL

8 Monkey/CHUEN (2015) dmalmos
Greetings Kin,
8 Monkey/CHUEN (8 B’aatz) is celebrated as the New Year in the Quiche/K’iche Maya tradition. On 8 Monkey/CHUEN we receive the Divine Justice that is due to those who count the days as Sacred. This New Year is the Homecoming from a journey of Creation.
In our own climbs to this Time and Place, we re-imagined what a New Seed of our Self could be. Then, we imagined the kind of world we would intend to leave to a new generation. The Monkey/CHUEN trecena inspired the Dream of our Creation. The Seed/KAN trecena offered us the first Experience of it. The Monkey intended us to Know that we Create our own Reality.
We create from the Heart. When our Heart feels the Creator’s Unconditional Love, Human is capable of manifesting its Highest Aspirations. On this New Year, we Identify our Self as a Creator. We Believe in the Truth that will change our future.
On WAXAJQIB B’AATZ the Mayan priest observes the Sacred Fire Ceremony. Daykeepers who completed their instruction and made the journey to all the altars are called forward for an Initiation of Spirit. The Elders traditionally offer the Daykeeper the bag of 260 Sacred Red Beans. The Mayan priest leads the Count of Days. The Quiche Maya begin with 1 Monkey/CHUEN. First the Blessing is given to the Direction, and to the Element of Chuen – Water than holds the Ether of Spirit. The count proceeds, 1 Monkey/CHUEN, 2 Monkey/CHUEN, 3 Monkey/CHUEN… completing the Blessings for each of the 20 Day Signs, and the Count of their Kin.
In the Count of Days, every Human’s Destiny is spoken by Name. And, in the Count we each hear our Own Name Called for the Blessing. On 8 Monkey/CHUEN we receive the Divine Justice that is due to the Creators of Love. Honoring the 260-days of the Tzolk’in, Human’s Intentions of Creation and all our ways of being, we WERE Honoring one another.
