EAGLE UPDATE: The Final Watch Has Begun

The Pip Watch Officially Began on the Haab New Year

NOTE: THE FIRST POST GOT AWAY FROM ME BEFORE IT WAS FINISHED. I had to restore/repost two entries to get it right. (Sorry about that.)

The Watch for Signs of New Life in Jackie and Shadow’s nest began on March 30, 2026. Jackie laid the first egg on February 24, and the second on February 27, 2026. It takes between 30-40 Days before the first Pip, when the eggs are cracked, and then 24-48 hours for the Eaglet to emerge. Jackie delays incubation for the first egg so that a second egg can hatch near the same time. Eaglets that hatch at the same time have the best equal odds of survival. 

The New Year marked the first 35 Day window, likely delayed for a couple of Days. The Eaglets could appear in Time for Easter!

Jackie and Shadow have a new egg in Big Bear Valley

A New Day… A New Egg…

Friends of Big Bear Valley have been anticipating a new egg. Jackie and Shadow have been spending time together in the nest making preparations. The new video from the Eagle’s nest cam shares the labor of Love and the moment that Jackie lays her new egg February 24, 2026, 14:35 PST. Jackie whistles while she works.

Forecasts for Big Bear Valley look like Spring weather ahead. Last season she endured days buried in the snow keeping her eggs warm. This appears to be Divine Timing to replace two eggs that were broken weeks before. The full report from FBBV is included with the video.

Sandy Steers’ final mission was to save their habitat and home. Their future depends on a funding deadline in July 2026. Details of Sandy’s labor of love and the link for donations is offered below… a worthy memorial.

A Perfect Pair

Jackie and Shadow spent yesterday morning going in and out of the nest but also enjoying the beautiful scenery from their well constructed high rise that has a spectacular view of the lake. Each one delivered a couple of new sticks to add to their collection, plus they shared some quality time together observing their vast territory.

Jackie and Shadow lost an eaglet during the last winter storm, when Jackie sat on the nest buried in snow. Jackie and Shadow grieved the loss and found peace in the love of the remaining 2. Love holds the Power to heal our wounds.
